101 Ocean--ft. Lauderdale--restaurant Review

101
Ocean is in a very touristy part of town being a block away from the
Commercial Boulevard fishing pier and has metered parking or $10 parking
lots. We expected high prices and we weren't surprised.
We had a
coupon for buy 1 lunch and get 1 free and since I love going to new
restaurants we decided to go. With the coupon, and no drinks, plus the
meter parking lunch turned out to be a little too expensive for the food
served but more about that in a minute.
The place was  empty inside
with a few tables taken outside and we were told to sit wherever we
wanted to and they would bring the menus overs which is what happened.
The waiter took and got our drink orders pretty quickly though it looked
like he had to go to the kitchen for Allen's iced tea ($2.75) and then
the other side of the restaurant for my coffee ($2.95)
Allen ordered
chicken pompodoro ($13) and I the Kobe burger ($13) which was served
promptly.  It was served in a salad bowl and though Allen would have
preferred penne he thought the pasta was okay but the garlic bread was
stale. I still don't understand the selling point of 'Kobe' beef raised
in the USA except to charge more but after the brie, saute onions and
pickles what difference does it make? The fries had obviously been
sitting in the kitchen for awhile and were stale and dry. The service
was okay with one waiter serving our main course and our waiter doing
the rest though ignoring my empty coffee cup.
All together, with tip and tax, the check came to $28, after the $13 deduction, for a mediocre lunch.
Good thing Kilwin's is right down the street but that's another review!.

I hate it when they don't give refills on coffee or tea. I don't know if they've run out of coffee and don't want to make a fresh pot, or don't want you to linger over a hot beverage.

I remember the first place I ever ate at when I first went to Florida in 1980, it was a buffet place called Duffs. I want to say it was in South Daytona Beach, it was a Friday and they had alot of seafood.

Better luck next time. Too bad ya can't even get a fresh fry. Very disappointing (and I'm not the one paying).
