Kota's Lucky Day

Today must be Kota's lucky day. First he had a really good day at school. I got a call from a counseling agency I had contacted. They were not able to get him in until the middle of May but she called today with cancellations. So he has his first appointment next Tuesday. I am going to ask his teacher if he could write me up something detailing the issues he has seen, since most of these issues are only seen at school. And this counseling place is one of the few that actually takes our insurance!
Then tonight we had to do some shopping. We were at one of those little strip shopping centers. One of the businesses is a karate place, one I have been checking out online. So on a whim we went in to find out more info. I don't think I can tell you how impressed I was! The two people running it are very friendly. They talked to Kota and not just to us. They explained to Kota what they would be doing, and how they teach things that are to be used in every day life, like getting along with other children, respecting adults, etc. And the price is not bad either! I think he will have a blast, he already saw two kids he knows who go there. The one teacher said don't be surprised when kota starts slimming down. That is what I am looking for, something fun for kota that gets him active. Although I think he is active, I must be wrong because of the extra weight he is carrying. We signed him up for a trial month, he got his uniform already. He is so excited. He can go every day but sunday, they are closed then. They have lessons from 5:45 until 8 something. They said he can stay for one class or for all of them! All for the same price! And they also said, if the parents have something to do, just drop the kid off. They have other activities as well, sleepovers, movie nights, things like that. So I am really happy and kota is just floating on the clouds. He did ask me if I am just going to drop him off tomorrow. I told him I would stay if he wants me to. But knowing him, after 10 minutes he will tell me to go. lol He is shy at first but then the real kota comes out. I think this is just what he needs. I will let you all know how it goes tomorrow night. I imagine he will be so excited afterwards, he won't be able to stop talking about it.
so today was his lucky day. He may not like the counseling too much at first but I think that will help all of us. I am sure there are things me and hubby are doing that could be improved on.

Yay for Kota! That kid deserves a break! I'm sure the karate will totally boost his confidence in school. J had a bullying problem when he was young too, and he said that getting involved in karate really gave him a much needed boost of esteem.

(((Well done to Kota)))
Is Mom and Dad going to sign up for Karate too? It does everyone a world of good - for fitness and making new friends.
But don't be dis-heartened if you see him a little nervous once he is wearing his Gi for the first time, I've seen alot of children feel a little frightened when they first walk in the dojo to train. If he does get a bit nervous, sugest that he watches the class for a few minutes to see whats going on, he won't feel pressured then. Another tip which he might benefit from is have him to wear a white t-sirt or vest under his Gi, Gi's tend to open when the kids run about and the kids get a bit paraniod if they feel other kids have peeked at their boobies, plus if he gets too hot he could take the jacket off.
Btw, is Kota asthmatic? If he is, take his pump just in case. Good Luck, let me know how it all goes

Mary, that's great news! I'm so happy for Kota. I think both the counseling and the Karate are wonderful ideas! He will probably love going to Karate with his friends. Counseling might take a while for him to get used to, but I think it will be a good thing for you. Another plus in the counseling thing is that the therapist can observe Kota and help you as far as getting help with the school, espeically when the therapist can see that what is happening at school is really affecting Kota and his behavior. It'll be a major plus for you and your hubby!

This is very good news. I think the counseling is a good thing, but the Karate will be great for him. It really does teach so many things in a delightful and fun way. I look forward to hearing about his adventure!
