Help! Wasps!

Me and Kota are trapped inside! He went out this morning and got stung by a wasp on his belly. He was right on our back steps. I put a mixture of baking soda and water on it, ice and gave him some claritin. It swelled up pretty good. He calmed down and wanted to go across the street to play with a friend. Here he came screaming again! He had only made it a few steps and got stung on his elbow! I called hubby but he won't be anywhere near our house today. I don't have any wasp spray. They seem to have a nest near our back door somewhere. Does anyone have any suggestions? The stingers were not in Kota anymore but wasps don't lose their stingers do they? They aren't like bees. I am keeping an eye on Kota for any other symptoms in case I need to take him to the doctor. He is fine, their is no swelling anywhere else, breathing is fine. But I sure don't want him to get stung again!
Are there any other home remedies for wasp stings to take the pain away? We are seriously afraid to leave the house!

Oh Gosh, poor little guy. I hate wasps. We recently found bees attempting to make a nest in the mouth of one of our cast iron garden frogs. They kept swarming by the back deck until we "took care of it"

No spray?
1.)Go out AFTER DARK (do not turn on any exterior lights. Use moonlight or the light coming through a window)and knock the nest into the yard with a broom.
2.)Run back inside as fast as you can and stay there until your heart rate gets back to normal as step one will likely scare the heck out of you.
3.) Get a bucket of bleach and water. Go out and pour it over the nest on the ground. The bleach might kill the grass underneath, but it will also kill the wasps/hornets.
You will likely get all/ most of them this way as they return to the nest at night and are usually "deep" sleepers. Waps are a terrible nuisance here in Florida. I have to walk around the house several times a year to find the nests. They also like the undersides of patio furniture and the insides of storage containers left outside. I even found one in my bird feeder! Nast buggers!

Every year we had a variety of wasp's nests around our back deck. We finally had an exterminator out to deal with them, last year. This year, no nests.

It sounds as if you got some good advice. Our wasps are not as smart. They build their next right outside our door hanging from the porch roof. Easy to spot. We just spray it to death, knock it down and step on it. Then we put it into the trash. Hope Kota is okay. They are nasty stings. I know my brother could tell you. I've never been stung by a bee, wasp, or anything, so I couldn't tell you. I wonder if it's my diet? Well, no. We ate the same food when we were kids. But the stinging bees, wasps, etc. always picked on him...

How horrible! You are imprisoned by them! I wish I had some advice on how to deal with them, but I am out of my league here.

I use white vinegar on the sting, then later touch it up with Vicks.

Here's a sure way to kill wasps or yellerjackets. Fill a pail with water. Tape the bail (handle) so it remains straight up. Tie a piece of fish or smelly meat to the top of the handle so it hangs down over the water. The wasps will land and eat until they fall off. They will fall in the water and drown. It works in fishing boats. Try it.

Wasps (and yellow jackets) can get good and ornery. Touchy little buggers! I'm not brave enough to fool with a nest of them. Here's what I would do:
1. Stay in the house.
2. Call a bug exterminator.
3. Let him remove the nest and all the stinging little devils.
4. Pay him whatever he wants!!!

Wow! Sorry I don't have any home remedies for you, but elfie33 had some great ideas! I hope they help you in getting rid of the wasps. If I were Kota, I'd be scared too.

I don't know of any home remedies Mary...I looked on the internet but I'm not sure any of these will help you..

If you are brave and not afraid of wasp stingers you can try one of the home remedies to get rid of the wasps.
If you find a wasp nest hanging from one of the trees in your backyard, all that you have to do is to light a small fire beneath it. The smoke from the fire will choke the wasps. Due to suffocation, some of the wasps will die while others will abandon the nest.
Wasps are attracted to anything sweet and sugary. Here is another home remedy to get rid of the wasps that are hanging around your house or garden. Make a hole in the lid of an empty can. The can should resemble the gallon milk jugs. Fill it half with sugar water or sugar syrup. If the can has a handle, hang it on the tree branch, using a string. The wasps will be attracted to the smell of sugar. Once they enter the can their wings will get stuck in the sugar water. Eventually they will die drowning in the sugar syrup.
The wasps are also attracted towards the garbage bag. Therefore it is suggested that you close the mouth of the garbage bag tightly before leaving it outside.
Keep your surroundings clean. The lawns must be trimmed and the tall weeds should be removed before they grow. The reason, is the wasps prefer to build their nests there.
If you are holding a barbecue party, make a homemade wasp trap. You would need a few pieces of beef liver. Using a string, tie the liver to the branch of a tree far away from where you are planning to hold the party. Few inches beneath the liver pieces, tie an empty milk can half-filled with soap water. The beef liver is used as a tasty bait to attract the wasps. The wasps will gorge on the meat. They will feel heavy to fly back and will fall inside the soap water. The detergent in the water will render their wings useless. The wasps will die by drowning in the water.
