My All Grown up Bed - for Real This Time

This is how I have slept for the past 3 years. We could not get the box springs up the stairs, the ceiling is too low. Don't you feel sorry for me?

I have had many back issues for the past 3 years. Trying to get out of bed is more difficult than it appears!

This is my 'new' bed. Up off the floor! There are 6 drawers on each side of the bed.

although I cleaned the drawers, they were very dirty from being in the basement for 3 years, I still would like to refinish them. They are very scratched up.

This is my side of the bed. On my night stand is the latest Dean Koontz book I am reading, my ashtray, lens cleaning wipes for my glasses and a jar of peanuts. teehee

I have an idea for the wall at the head of the bed, but I will share that after it is done. My next project is my salon room, where I do my hair and makeup, when I wear makeup! It became our storage room more than my salon room. The entrance to the attic is in that room so things get dropped off in there with the intention of taking them up. Haha!
I have enjoyed this project and I think that Elderjane was right. Organizing things is a psychological need to bring order into your life. There are areas of my life I cannot control so I guess I take on these projects to convince myself I am in control of something. Plus it's nice to bring people over and show off my projects. Time to decorate, the walls are all bare!

I'll go over and over a project in my mind but don't start it because subconsciously I'm afraid I won't finish, or won't like the end product. But oh! The wonderful feeling when something finally is done!

that is EXACTLY how I was! I would be so overwhelmed by the work involved that I would keep putting it off. It was a great feeling to accomplish this and my bedroom is nice and cozy now.

Do you smoke in bed? Be careful please!!! That scares me.
I like the drawers under the bed - PERFECT for storage! Enjoy!

I usually have one cigarette while I am reading. as I have insomnia, I have never dropped off to sleep while reading.
I only have one drawer filled so far. I kind of took a break from organizing as my allergies have hit full force for some reason.

Will you have to dust under the bed now (or do those drawers take up the whole space)? Hope this helps your back.

i will have to dust under the bed. there is about a 2ft gap between the drawers. I guess it's time to buy a swiffer broom!

first night in the bed was pretty good, other than my usual not being able to get to sleep at first. I think I did sleep better, don't remember waking up during the night like I normally would.

Congratulations. We take those baby steps and pretty things happen and it
makes us feel lots better. I watch HGTV a lot for ideas. The days are gone
when Ted was able to carry out my projects.

I have been the most disorganized housekeeper. I absolutely hated cleaning. But now the feeling I get from a clean and organized house overcomes that dread. I have a good friend who is always trying to motivate me to get things done. her house looks like it is right out of Good Housekeeping. When I posted the pics on my facebook she said she was so proud of me.
I was in our attic yesterday taking christmas decorations up and I thought, this would be a really cool room! As we are only renting, we can't make any major changes to the house though. But I would love to one day own this house.

Yippee! on the new bed. Having a good bed is really helpful in getting a good night sleep and avoiding back issues. I am so happy for you.
I totally understand what you mean about trying to do these kind of projects to avoid chaos in other areas of our lives. I do the same thing.

it's also amazing the self confidence boost I get from finishing a project. I used to be all talk, I am going to do this or that. But I would be so overwhelmed by the amount of work involved that I would just put it off. Now I am more motivated to continue this reorganization. If only I could get some kind of control of those issues bothering me in my personal life, namely with stepson and his wife.

Congratulations on your hard work and your new bed, Mary. Getting up will be much easier and I'll bet you'll sleep much more comfortably. And best wishes for success and satisfaction on your home projects! Great way to start the new year!

It is very liberating to take on a project and actually do it! I am so proud of myself for cutting out the procrastination. I think hubby is actually surprised as well and it has motivated him to do some projects!

My bed and box spring are on the floor. I practically have to sit up in bed to see the time on my clock. I like it that way. Less floor to clean.

too funny Marg! I wish I could film how I would have to get out of bed in the mornings. I would have to sit up, lean on my arms and then roll up and out of bed. it is no wonder I had such back pain!
