Pond in My Kitchen

You may need hip boots if you come to my house today.    Our hot water heater is on it's last legs.
It started leaking water yesterday morning early.    Called the landlord and he came out and looked at it, but had to call a plumber.
One couldn't come out for two weeks....another said he could be out by Tuesday.    In the mean time were using a shop vac every 30 min to pick up the water.   Ken turned it off for awhile thinking that might help...it's still leaking.    Not sure how we are gonna manage this till Tuesday.
So if you stop by....you may want to bring a bucket and some hip boots...My sweetie tried to fix it last night with some kind of putty...the only thing that did was make it smell funny like someone was cooking something...something not good.  So much for Mr. Fix it.  *sighs*
On an up note it's Friday...I'd do a happy dance...but I'm too tired.

Wow! An indoor swimming pool! I'll bring extra towels and maybe an inner tube...I like floating in a leisurely fashion. Now, is there anything else I can bring? I'd hate to show up at a pool party without having something to contribute, so let me know what you might need, ok? Maybe some WATERcress sandwiches, a WATERmelon, or a salad with WATER chestnuts? I can even bring some fire WATER if this is going to be a wild party!

Seriously, I hope this whole mess is all cleared up by now, for your sake. You know, for your sanity's sake. But, if not, let me know and I'll be over for the pool party!

Man what a pain that sounds like. Did you guys hook a hose up to it to just drain it so it stops leaking? Sucky thing is then you have NO water. I hope everything gets fixed asap for ya!

Our water heater gave out about a year ago. It comes with this little catching basin under it... You don't have one of those? Well, it's a good thing that it gave out when it did because the new one we had installed... the guy strapped it to the wall, which was in case of earthquakes, which we had recently. The water heater did not fall over!

…water heater.
…it’s not your house.
…this not til Tuesday fix bizo.
…you can say you’ve had an indoor swimming pool. ooh Posh.

You’d think he’d be a bit more concerned considering the possible damage to the houses structure.

Can you drag a sandpit inside, pretend yer on an island...

We were just having a discussion about this yesterday - whether they invariably flood the house when they fail or do they gracefully stop making hot water. It sounds like the flood happens more often than the element going out. With our recent plumbing problems, the water heater is the next candidate for failure, and it will surely be at an inconvenient time.

My daughter had to replace her about three months ago. Fortunately, it was in the garage, but it soaked Taylor's room next door. Try connecting a hose and letting the water run outside.

Sorry for your inconvenience. It's always something, huh?

Oh, I hope the landlord opts to fix this soon! What an idiot he is for not calling in a plumber right away as the water can do a lot of damage to the structure!

Been there, done that. Sorry it's happening to you. You do know how to swim, right?

That is my worst fear! I would not be able to be in the house with that happening.Best wishes with it.

Elfie...you need to get that replaced as soon as possible. The leaking means these a weak spot in the tank. I've seen many a water heaters blow out and it's not pretty. If for some reason it does happen, make sure you know how to shut off the water heater supply or the water main into the house. This is not good...

omg that really does suck! I'm sorry to hear this Elfie. Is there any way you could find a friend to drain the system and put dud ends on the water mains - to the boiler til tuesday?

sorry elfie, that's no way to start a Friday

You can shut off the water to the heater, then turn on the hot water in the tub to empty out what is in there (could be up to 75 gallons) Once it is empty you won't have any more leakage. You won't have anymore hot water either though...

well, not all kitchen have a pond there.
Maybe you can put some goldfishes in there
Oh!what do I know

You should have a shut off valve somewhere near the water supply to the water heater. The insides are probably rusted out.I owned a Plumbing company for 20 tears with my ex.I would call Sears and get a new water heater and take it off next months rent.Laurie

An ocean in my kicthen!!! For the 3rd time this year (unbelievable!!) I left the water running in the kitchen sink and flooded my apartment!! Senility here I am.
comment by greatmartin on Aug 15, 2008 8:49 AM ()
Isn't that rather unacceptable that the landlord can't get it fixed for 3 days??? What if you drown in your sleep? I would ask for money off the rent this month... that way you can spend more on lunch!
