In My Next Life

I want to come back as a plumber.  These folks can set their own hours, work when and if they want to.   If they are frustrated they can take it out on poor helpless home owners who have no choice but to grovel at their feet.   I’m telling you these guys have it made.

I’m now the proud owner of a new water heater.   The old one was so old and rusted out that it couldn’t be saved.    My hubby bless his heart stayed up two nights using a shop vac to suck up water and by the second night was in no mood to negotiate with anybody.  He told the landlord something had to be done right then…we couldn’t wait till Tuesday.      Our landlord came thru with a new one…bless his heart..and installed it.       It looks like some monster out of the black lagoon but it’s in there.

Our old one was cabinet like (have no clue how old it was)…fit right with my cabinets in the kitchen.    This one is huge, taller than I am (hey I know that’s not saying a lot..and no laughter from the peanut gallery) and round, has pipes sticking out all over and blocks part of my cabinets…but hey it’s in there, we have water, and we don’t have a lake in the kitchen…so in my book we’re batting a thousand.

I’ve got three fans going trying to dry out the indoor/outdoor carpet…and maybe in a month or so it might get dry.     I have no clue why they put indoor/outdoor carpet in the kitchen but I can tell you it’s a pain in the rear.

The funny part of all this….Sunday afternoon we get a knock on the door….and guess who it is?    Mr. Plumber guy stopped to see how we were doing.    He still couldn’t do anything till Tuesday…but just wanted to check in with us…Ken talked to him, I didn’t.     I thought it was really nice of him to stop by and to check and make sure we hadn’t drowned or anything.  *snorts*

Aw, shucks! I'm putting my bathing suit, towels, and inner tube away.
I was really looking forward to a pool party. But, hey! I am happy for you now that you have the new "monster". Hope you get that carpet dried out quick, you don't want any problems because of that to deal with. Enough is enough, already.

Rethink your career as a plumber. They usually smell like sewage while th ey are on the job.

That's interesting that he had time to stop by, but not fix it. Yeah... I think in my next life I wanna be a plummer too... Or, well, maybe not. I'm sure they have a bit of dirty work to deal with. Of course, that's what apprentices and assistants are for.

Now see? There you go again channeling what we've got going on here. This old water heater we've got is the cabinet type. I think we can still get one like that, but might end up with the taller kind. The problem with that is it will take a lot more plumbing to hook it up and of course it will take up more room. Mr. Troutbend is a reluctant handyman, so he does not want to hear me wondering aloud whether we should replace it before it fails.

Can you beautify it with paint or stickers or decals or put eyes and a wicked tooth grin on it?

My ex spent late nights and many holidays helping people with plumbing problems. He didn't even charge extra.People thought since my husband was a plumber,we had money.Nope,we just got by.There are a few good plumbers out there but they are very hard to find.Laurie

No carpet in my place--linolium does the job and is s-o-o-o easy to take care of--especially whwn you flood your place like I have!!!

Glad to hear the leaking crazy water heater has ended its stay in your home! Wishing you a speedy drying out process. What an exhausting experience! I know what you mean about the carpet. A friend of mine got it into her head that astroturf/artificial grass would look great in her kitchen. Lordy, what a mess....

Only in the south...
Sucks that your cabinets are blocked but I am glad you have it all fixed!

Bad thing about being a plumber, is that they can never seem to get jeans to fit! You'd have to display the celebrated "plumber's crack" and that just doesn't work for me. That's why I'll never be one of those.
