Wind

The wind is blowing about thirty miles per hour which is an
improvement over this morning. I was dreading going out to
my antique and collectibles meeting but it was worth while.
Teal would be proud of me because I firmly turned down the
cake and lattes. Black coffee only.

I came home and made pizza for Ted and concocted one on
flat bread for myself and it was good. There was plenty
left over for the girls after school. Dakota's mom has
forbidden his after school visits until his grades improve
so Adrienne is bereft. It is like old times to have a
houseful of kids.

I went to an estate sale in the afternoon and was touched to
see a framed wedding fan, very well done. It seems that
someone in the family should have treasured it. Estate sales
are sad. They had a beautiful white damask chair but white
is a no no at my house unless it is leather.

Rex has been an absolute clown today. He tears around the
house with my socks and underwear and it is impossible not
to laugh at him.

I thought I lost the first paragraph but it was hiding. I scrolled all the way down and didn't find it. So you got two similar responses. emoticon working now.

I have leather sofa and loveseat, beige, and have to cover them because cat claws will destroy them (what was I thinking). Covering them is something I am only lately solving -- everything slides on leather and looks a fright. I recently bought a double sided tape on line, primarily for rug on rug slippage, and it does NOT leave any marks or residue when it is pulled off. I've already tested it on leather. Hallelujah. Now the shaped cover I am not using can stay on but first I have to take an old sheet and sew it to the back because the original backing came off in the wash in quilted peices and what remains is fuzz. The pieces were pulling away, so no hold. I refuse to buy another ($60-plus).

I have a leather sofa and love seat and must keep them covered because the cats are not declawed. All covers designed for protection from pets slide into an ugly mess. I recently found a double-sided tape on line to use for rug on rug slippage, and I tried it on the leather -- it doesn't leave a residue no matter how long it has been on. The shaped cover I have had a quilted lining that came off in the wash -- the pieces were sticking to the tape but coming off. I a going to re-line it with an old sheet, my next project (ha ha ha says my work mentor). If you are interested in this tape, I'll look up where I got it. (emoticons not working -- here's a kiss and a heart for you.)

Rex doesn't sit on furniture, he just prefers the middle of our bed for
his naps so I have a complicated system of bed making with both a quilt
and an afghan on top of the bed spread. Like your cats, he is worth all
the adaptations.

I love the wind but not when it's blowing roofing tiles or big branches dwn the street.
I would love to go to an estate sale.

When I buy something that I love, I tell myself the former owner would
want someone who would care for the object and treat it tenderly. I
have a friends who like going too.

Those sales can be really sad - you see fancy nightgowns or other nice things that had to have been gifts many years ago, and they were stored away for the day that was worthy of them, and never saw the light of day.

When my grandmother died, we found that she had been saving the gowns and
robes we had given her for some remote day when she was in the hospital.
It pays to use our nice things but sometimes it is hard to let go of your
hoard. I had monogrammed napkins for one table at the family reunion and
no one used theirs because they were "too nice to get dirty."

Go woman!!! It is a way to find antique furniture that the family no longer
wants and it adds punch to your decorating. I collect flow blue and I
have found a lot at estate sales. Rex is such a darling. I can't imagine
life without a golden retriever. There are several in my neighborhood and
we love them all.
