Nova, Dawn and I spent several hours at the Fred Jones
Museum on the campus at Norman. We had a lot to cover since
it is four floors and crammed full of art. I came away with
4 pictures stuck in my head. Three portraits by a Russian
artist named Fechen and one huge, glorious abstract.
There were also three Pissaro's, a Reimbrandt and a Monet,
lots of Native American art and a lot of pottery. It left
me feeling that I needed to get back to painting and
throwing pots. It certainly revived the urge. I have taken
two pottery classes with Ted and I enjoyed every minute of
it. There is something about immersing yourself in the
clay that is satisfying. They had several of the famous
Maria black pots. A potter in Santa Fe told me that they
used lava to get the color. She also told me that the
galleries paid the artists very little for their work
and then sold them for enormous sums. Isn't that the
way of the world!
Prior to our outing, Ted and I went out for an enormous
country breakfast. It was fun. We have a wooden horse
that we are restoring at the moment. We think that it is
Mexican in origin but we are changing it to suit us. The
big question is where to put it?
the art institute by myself. I loved it and the Met as well. You are right. They are religious experiences.
