Trauma for All Concerned

Today, we dropped Jose off at the vet for his teeth cleaning and extraction. It hurt us all. The little guy
thought he had landed in the shelter again. Our vet has a
number of dogs that he keeps at his office and Jose started
crying and shaking when he saw them. This really distressed Ted and I because Jose was doing so well. He
had gained a pound and a half and his fur was getting glossy and soft and he fits our family so well.

We get to pick him up at four. My heart broke for him this
morning because he was hungry and unhappy and I knew his
little mouth would be sore for awhile. It has just been
a month since we got him but he is so much fun and just
love personified.

Rex is a happier dog since he got a companion. I think
he acts about five years younger. Rex plays with toys
again.

Sometimes it is hard to be a good dog parent and do what
is in their best interest.

I hope it doesn't have long-lasting effects.

Jose was relieved to be at home, gathered his toys and went to bed early.
It took a lot out of him.

For this reason we do not board our shelter rescued kitties when we have to be away overnight. We get someone to stay at the house with them. Brunswick, I have mentioned, was fostered when he had pneumonia, then returned to the shelter. When we got him, he didn't trust that he had a home because he had been traumatized with the loss of his foster mom. But he learned to trust us and was a super kitty. I miss his very much.

It worked out well for us to have a house sitter this year while we were
on vacation. It is a great solution. Rex will not eat when he is boarded.

That is hard when your dog is frightened. But the instant he sees you he'll forget it all.

He was super happy to be home and Rex kept sniffing him to see where he
had been. Rex was probably thrilled that he didn't have to go!

Awe, that is hard!!! I have a feeling it is worse for you than him. Well, depending on the painkillers he gets.

He came home with pain killers and an antibiotic and was so happy to
get home and get to eat dinner. So glad he didn't get sick because
he ate like a wolf, trying to make up for a day of starvation.
