Where Does the Time Go?

Rex has scratched a small cut into a large wound. We got him a collar which sent him into hysterics and he had it off in sixty seconds. At present he is wearing a man's glove over his foot so he can't scratch. It is like taking
care of a toddler that you can't reason with.

I am determined to save the plants that are not as yet well
established enough to weather a cold winter. I spent the morning mulching and watering them down. I have had good luck with flowers but the only vegetable I have had any luck
with is my pepper plant. I got six peppers this morning and
it is still blooming. I set out pansies for a little winter
color. I also picked up a lot of falling leaves and pecans.
The squirrels are busy picking them up, eating a few bites and throwing them down.

I have grand daughters, Laura and Ashley who have birthdays
pretty soon. I am glad they are both mercenary and I won't
have to think about a gift. A check in an envelope does
nicely for them.
It will soon be winter and I am never ready for it. I wish
that I had Laura's fox. He could get through the winter
nicely just by eating this plague of squirrels.

My heart goes out to Rex. My late cat, Sniff, had to wear a collar when he was catheterized for a urinary blockage. He was miserable. I went into Manhattan every day from Queens to visit him at the (incredibly expensive) clinic. But we saved his life.

We are going to have to try the collar again. Rex has found a way to scratch his wound. It is a miserable fix. Loving animals as we do, their misery tugs at our hearts.

We had to use a collar on Wolfie every so often - once in a while he would be prone to an attack of excema. He wold keep it on, but all the 'lower ornaments' around the house, would have to be cleared away - he could never 'size up' the obstacle to avoid. You may find that a size smaller collar, will stay on him - the first one I bought for him was too large (even though I thought it 'looked' ok. He did eventually grow into it). I still miss him

The boot seems to work well. It stays on and he just goes around looking depressed.

Poor Rex (and you for having to struggle with him). I haven't seen the fox for a couple of days, saw him at dusk eating a rodent in the yard, crunching through the bones, snap crackle pop and then he left.

I wonder if the fox could handle a raccoon?. I doubt if he could catch one since they can shimmy up a tree.

Poor Rex. He never wore a collar before?

No, this was his first and last collar. He learned how to undo the
snaps.

I don't prefer winter either. Have to winterize the travel trail soon too...that is depressing. I like to keep it full (water in particular) in case something happens to the well pump and we have to live out there for a few days. But time has been passing so fast that spring will arrive in no time! Good luck with the toddler.... too bad they can't give him a valium or something.

Isn't it funny how time flies when you get a little older? The mornings are gone in an instant. I had a well on the farm and had to keep an electric stove in there for when the weather got in the low teens or carry
it from a freeze proof spigot.
