Thoroughly Bitten

I made the horrid mistake of watering my plants this morning with out putting on insect repellant. I always pay dearly for this kind of error. I fantasized about comparing the plants to people. The Vines are the divas going where and when they will. They have beautiful blossoms but cling. The boston ferns are blowsy and overdone. Sort of like the women you see at Walmart. The begonias are strait laced mature women, never overflowing their pots. The ivy and aloe are sharing a pot...and the aloe is not liking her prolific room mate. The hydrangeas are my favorites. Like catching a glimpse of a person so beautiful that you just have to stop and stare. I am not crazy...I repeat I am not crazy just trying to entertain myself.

I have never likened humans to plants. I love plants. My mother had plants. I have killed plants, not by design. I used to garden in Florida I had some truly lovely bushes near our stone fence and then the hurricanes came. God doesn't want me to have plants. I envy people with plants. Have I gone on too long? Probably.

About the time that I have a birthday, I make a huge swath through the garden store. Sometimes I have to cover my plants because of the cold but it is totally worth it to have them lush and beautiful early in the season.

You know what they say: the difference between most of us and the few in the locked ward is that they say out loud what we keep to ourselves. Hmmm... can't imagine what made me think of that. Enjoy your flowers, you work hard to keep them looking good!

Yes, it is a lot of work but the enjoyment is worth it. Just like your garden! People are standing in line for fresh sweet corn here.

Loved it.
PS: Take no chances. West Nile can be deadly.

It is so tempting to dash out for a minute with Jose but he dilly dallies
and I end up with a few bites. I will be more careful. the next door neighbor is moving and his above ground swimming pool has not been drained. It is an eye sore and a nuisance. I will be more careful.

I think of hollyhocks as wholesome ladies who are good cooks.

Hollyhocks are so sturdy. I haven't had any in years but I always loved
them and cannas and day lilies because they tend to make it anywhere and
they come up every year.
