My Sweet Jose is Dishing Out Punishment

Jose is the sweetest most loving dog that I have ever had but he is exceedingly stubborn. I am facing revision surgery on my left knee and the pain is really excessive. He no longer gets to walk very far and with his crew of dog walkers and he is blaming me. He won't walk without me and evidently cannot understand why he is being deprived of his favorite activity. He has retaliated by ceasing to mind me. Ted can't walk him, he is in a wheel chair. Jose makes it very obvious that he is my dog. He sleeps on my pillow or draped across me and follows me. He used to be obedient. He won't pee when I tell him to and take him out. He holds out for a walk and this is the pits. Advice anyone?

I have to laugh reading this, not for lack of empathy, but because I live with Rosie!

I hope Rosie is not that stubborn or defiant. There was a time when we walked with two other women and their dogs and he loved that. Now, I can barely manage a two block walk. relief is not in sight.

I vote for a pet sitter to walk Jose and lots of food rewards for each bit of cooperation and every little step of progress.

He refuses to walk with the neighbor women that we formerly walked with.
He keeps sitting down and waiting for me. He gets lots of rewards and is a bit too portly.

Food doesn't work? Even Missy responds to food. Good luck with Kristy's suggestions. If anybody knows, she should.

food does not work. I am thinking that I have raised a spoiled brat.

I vote with Kristi - see if those other dog walkers could pick him up at your house and give him a little outing with dogs he knows.

doesn't work....he won't walk without me and the pain is so intense that I simply cannot walk over two blocks.

Those are wonderful dog toy ideas from kristilyn. But if you're going to be off your feet for an extended time, you certainly need a wheelchair or scooter for yourself. Another thing I saw for dogs was a puzzle mat or treat mat that you hide kibbles in.

I have a wheel chair but as I said, I don't do handicapped well although I am going to be forced to try it.

Since you are the only one he minds, go out in a wheelchair with a friend and the troublesome Jose. If you're there, he'll be okay.

Can you possibly hire a pet sitter to walk him once a day to try to tire him out? Sorry he’s being pesky.
Another idea is mental games, check out Nina ossoman(?) dog toys.

He is stubborn as a little mule and won't walk with others without me. I have neighbors that would take him but he won't cooperate.
