In a State of Misery

I woke up Thursday morning to a refrigerator that was completely full of water in the freezer. Fortunately I was able to rush most of the food to the big freezer and my little dorm size fridge in the garage. Then I put ice in the refrigerator proper to preserve the wine and condiments. No telling how long it will be out of commission and Ted says just trash it and buy a new one which I don't want to do because I have home warranty coverage. This happened Thursday and I don't get a repairman until today.

I have the home warranty because my air conditioning and heating unit is old and might need to be replaced to the tune of five or six thousand dollars. You can't win for losing.

In the meantime we are all fine. My DIL is on strike with the rest of the teachers. I have a busy week coming up with a physical Tuesday afternoon. Ted sprained his ankle but is able to get a shoe on and to walk a little. Jose is a delight but he has gotten too fat. He is the laziest little dog I have ever seen. He lies down to eat. He likes to walk and we go every day that it is warm enough. We have discovered that he can sit up and probably has been taught more tricks if we knew how to
command them.

I have our old fridge in the garage -- it isn't perfect, but it's okay for keeping soda and beer cold, the stuff that takes up space and you don't use a lot of. At least in our house.

your title had me worried -- it's only stuff you can handle. People worries are another story. If you can afford a new refrigerator (my fave is side by side with ice and water in the door) get one. You will be happy you did.

Teal, this is the 7th day without a fridge. I bought one and it will be delivered today. I am having the old one fixed and haven't decided if I will sell it or keep it. I have 3 leaky picnic coolers in the kitchen. Well do I know that people problems are the worst but this kind of inconvenience is maddening.

With the price of refrigerators, I don't blame you for wanting it repaired. Those teacher strikes are pretty amazing. When I was in about 5th grade, my school district was still on a long strike when the school year began, but my mother -- an elementary teacher in another district -- refused to send us to school when they hired replacements (scabs! my mother said) for the first week or so.

I am proud of your mother. My first job was with the telephone company and we were on strike for six weeks. I will never cross a picket line.
