Simplistic But it Works.

This was excerpted from the Daily Oklahoman today. The
article is Sunny Side Up by Colleen Oakley. You may have
seen it since it was in the parade section.

l. Cheerful people don't dwell on happiness or unhappiness.

2. Research shows that anticipation is usually more fun
than actually taking a trip. (I find that not true.)

3. Happiness is only 50 percent genetic.

4. You should cultivate friendships at work and you will
find that your work makes you happier.

5. If you are sad, reading a novel helps.

6. You have just a little free time, you are happier if
you spend it outside. Not now please God, we are
melting here.

7. Optimists are not happier than pessimists because
lowered expectations lead to less disappointment. This
woman is wrong. You figure out the worst case scenario
make a plan and don't worry about it further.

8. Any kind of music that you like can be a mood lifter.

9. Research has found that a daily fish oil supplement
can be effective in warding off depression, I take two.

l0. Just thinking about a Disney movie you loved or
listening to it makes one happier.

I have been accused of making Ashley a little Cinderella
because she loves to clean the feet of furniture with
pledge. She overuses it a bit but it sure spares my
ancient bones. Ashley gets 5 stars for not being lazy.
She makes me happy as does her sister who gets would rather
drink Dr. Pepper and chill on the computer.

I agree with all except #7. Optimism is never about diminished expectations. It is seeing the best, hoping for the best, believing in the best, doing your best, and celebrating the good that comes, knowing that more good is in store....

I understand all of them except #7: Optimists are NOT happier than Pessimists? I find looking at what is right/bright and not focusing on everything that is wrong helps me get through life.

Absolutes about happiness or sadness are not helpful. Each deals in his own way. A determination to be positive and relaxation techniques along with healthy living go far in preventing sadness. And if it's clinical, take the pill please so the rest of us can stop trembling when you walk in the door.

I am not depressed sweetie but I have discovered that meditation helps me
sleep. I try to think inhale, exhale and pretty soon it blocks out other
thoughts and I can go to sleep.

Don't worry. Be happy.

I have something to be happy about. Ted watched a show about the brain and
was able to control his pain for a short time in which he was able to
walk around and get some exercise. Maybe more time tomorrow.

I use fish oil also. My is by script--supposedly mercury free and all that good stuff. At two grams a day, I guess I don't be depressed any time soon!
BTW, just looked at a national weather map... looks hotter than hell down there again.... don't know how yawl stand it.

Y'all up there couldn't take it and we shouldn't have to. I just listened
to the weather and they said it may be 89 by the last of August. I have noticed a change. I had some yard work that needed to be done and it was
cooler than usual at 5 a.m. It was hot by 7:30 when I finished.

Nice list... I love Disney movies, except for the part where the mother or father dies...

I can't watch animal movies like "Old Yeller". I can't watch the A.S.P.C.A
commercials because they are too horrible. I just sent P.E.T.A. some money and said delete me from the mailing list. It is too traumatic. I
am too emotionally involved with my pets and always have been.
