Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll

We had a wonderful evening last night watching the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. Sadly, many were posthumous such as Little Walter and two members of the Dave Clark Five.

We have loved Leonard Cohen for years. I think he is one of the sexiest men alive...even at 7l. We were disappointed that he didn't do any songs and that he had a sorry, inept and rambling introduction. Ted had said he was hoping for our favorite, "Tower of Song". He recited it at the end of his speech but he and his angels have done such a bang up job on this in the past. I guess after his 3 year stint in a Budhist monastary, he is just writing now.

Madonna looked toned and beautiful but her speech was a little tasteless since she kept alluding to drug use. She had a witty introduction by Justin Timberlake.

John Mellencamp was wonderful. He is still performing as energetically as ever, and one of his sons is in his band.

John Mellencamp and the music of the Dave Clark Five had me up and dancing. I had never heard of Joan Jett, this little goth wisp with a husky voice but she was great doing the Five's music. I am so out of it but we have to have more of her singing. Billy Joel introduced John Mellencamp and was witty and entertaining.

On the last tribute song to the D. C. Five, John Mellencamp
and one of Credance Clearwater and Billy Joel sang with them. It made for a rousing finish. The sixties were a wierd, tragic, magical time and I am glad I enjoyed it to the fullest.

Oh darn! I meant to watch that; but I was so tired last night that I didn't even turn the television on.

Rock & Roll has never topped the music of the Sixties. My biggest disappointment in life, in retrospect, is that I didn't make it to Woodstock, perhaps the greatest single musical event of all time.

Yes, they were, although I did not fully enjoy the era until the 70's. During the Sixties, I was lost to Catholicism and avoiding "Occasions of Sin". I did not cut loose until my priest threatened to excommunicate me for leaving a battering spouse. Then, and only then, did I play a fast game of catch-up with all that the Age of Aquarius had to offer. I loved the folk musicians the best!
