The Right to Plan

Please read the article Joan Dobbs wrote on facebook about
abortion. She makes her point so well. I know that I am
preaching to the choir but if an early abortion is murder,
then you are murdering a chicken every time you eat a
fertilized egg.

I had a therapeutic abortion when Linda was five. I was
bleeding to death and it saved my life. I was very grateful
for the three doctors who signed off on it so that I did not
leave my daughter motherless. I went on to have another child
and lead a reasonably productive life.

I was thankful for the law that made abortion possible. I
am ancient and I have seen women die from botched abortions,
women old at 35 because continuous pregnancies has ruined
their health. I want women to have a freedom to choose and
to plan their families. Accidents still happen despite much
better contraception than we had. Passion still makes it
possible for common sense to be over ruled.

In my opinion this is an issue that concerns women. Men
do not bear children and I find it amazing that the most
vocal opponents to abortion are men, a number of whom skip
out on parental responsibilities.

Religion, should consider helping those children that are
already here and in dire straits. They need love and
guidance.

Keven was the only man so far since I'm way behind on everything since camp. Somebody once said that if men got pregnant there would be an abortionist in the back room of every gin-mill. True enough, I suspect. While it's a woman's decision, it's societies issue since society is responsible for the consequences of woman's choices. I saw that you commented on a fb post about 9-year-olds shooting automatic weapons. There is also a problem with 16-year-olds deciding to get pregnant. I remember when Connie (Beabea) used to blog about people in her school congratulating pregnant high school girls. These kids were basically making their lives more difficult (to say the least) and screwing up the kids' lives. Anyway, enough ranting.... you are preaching to the choir on mybloggers!

pretty hard for me to comment on this abortion talk, but agree with those who say its a women's decision and not take her rights away

Kevin, you are the only man who has commented on this. I love babies and
children and I hate to see someone bring them into a world where they are
not wanted and valued. It is a woman's decision and no one has the right
to make it for her.

When I hear about cases in which a woman with a whole bunch of children finds out she has cancer, then delays or just refuses treatment so the embryo doesn't get affected... has the baby, and then dies of cancer and her husband is left with 12 children to bring up alone; & all those kids have no mother -- I think that woman is a jerk to leave her family alone. It makes women NOT MOTHERS, but Easy-Bake Ovens that make babies and nothing more. We aren't animals -- having a child isn't to ensure the survival of the species! I really don't know what to do with a religion that insists on this but to constantly rail against it. And I'd like to read that blog too, I haven't heard from Rachel M in a while.

We are on the same page. We are not living in the dark ages and it is foolish to pretend that science is wrong. I have worked in the helping
professions for most of my working life and I believe that I am kind and
helpful to others now, but I have rejected religion. It has caused so
much havoc and is still deluding people into thinking there is only one
truth and they have it and must make everyone else accept it.

Well said and I appreciate you telling us your personal story. I couldn't agree more though, I don't understand why anti- abortion people aren't satisfied by just not having them.

Kristy, you have done things exactly right. You waited until you were
ready to have children. I would not be here if my doctor had been hampered
by outmoded religious principles. Instead, he did the intelligent thing and
saved me to raise my living child. Like you, I do not understand why the
anti abortion people want to force their views on everyone else.

Your remarks are well said but are not as furious as they might be. The misuse of faith is at the root of 90 percent of the evil in the world. Rachel Maddow has a blog and its most recent issue is the pervasive introduction of religious ritual into local government events. It is sickening.

I need to read that blog. I am not anti men or anti child but I am very
much in favor of healthy women being able to chose when or if they will
have children. Religion does not belong in government. Sometimes I think
we are returning to the middle ages in spite of scientific advances.
