Mother Nature, Angry and Crazed

The storm last night was a nightmare. An F2 torando swept
through Moore, Oklahoma once again, swooped down at
Tinker Air Force Base and missed us by two miles. We had
driving rain and golf ball sized hail. Rex was terrified.

My disaster preparations lack a lot. My friend, Hazel
was in the Moore tornado two years ago and survived by
getting in the laundry hamper with her dog. Her worst
thing, other than the clean up, was the loss of important
papers. I got the hardest to replace into a back pack but
I forgot all about prescription drugs. Ted and I moved
essentials to the storm shelter but never actually got
into it ourselves. Today we can rethink our priorities
because I am anticipating rough weather through June.

On a lighter note, my lawn mowing thirteen year old twins
came by with a professional looking card. They are so
cute and such hard workers. I will be ready for them
next week.

The storm kept me from putting out my flowers. We had
up to 80 mph winds. I am looking forward to getting
them in pots today.

We drove by your place after it was over, to check on you, but all the lights were off and we didn't want to wake you, if you were asleep.

For the first time in my life, I was frightened during those storms. I usually laugh them off, stand on the porch, scratch my belly and wonder if I'll get to see one. This time, I was at church, alone and the electricity went off. Sirens going off and I had no idea where the danger was. Thunderground is coming in April to install our shelter.

Fortunately we got a storm shelter which will hold 16. There are only
6 in our near family so you and your family are welcome if another comes
before you have your shelter. Did you get in on the grant or the lottery?

A big laundry hamper, check. I'll get one...

For some reason, the builders here build a fold out hamper that goes
back into the bathroom cabinet. Hazel is a small woman with a small
dog so she was able to fold herself back into it.

The property insurance rates in Moore must be really high, or they should be, as a deterrent to people rebuilding in such a proven hazard zone.

The insurance companies are so thoughtful and kind. (sarcasm) they spread
rate increases all across the state and put high deductables for wind
and hail on us all while increasing insurance in Moore. I would never
buy a house there although I have a friend who just did.

I can't imagine living like that. The worst we get here is water in the basement and that stresses me to the point of getting ill when it's over. I do have tall pines near the house that could do serious damage when the ground is soft and the wind gusts but so far we haven't had a problem. We're getting rain now on top of the snow pack, but I doubt that we'll have any flooding. Even with tons of snow on the ground it takes a lot of rain. Anyway, I hope y'all will be safe, but you seem to handle it year after year. Have fun planting!

We are tough...we have to be to survive the weather, heat, drought and cold. My DIL and I were talking about how stupid people are to still
buy homes in Moore...they have had 4 tornados within the last 4 years.
Houses are cheap there. She didn't have to teach today because there
was so much damage to one of her schools and so much debris in the street.

Can I ask why you didn't get into the storm shelter? I'm paranoid about such things and have stood in our basement bathroom during bad storms - once while I was breastfeeding! I guess I always fear the worst... Glad everyone is ok and I hope Rex makes a speedy recovery from the stress.

By the time we got ready the storm had moved south of us. These things
go very quickly and change in minutes leaving debris an desolation behind.
