Randolph Deil was a convicted murderer. He had been diagnosed as a sociopath and prison psychiatrists warned that he was charismatic, smart and charming. He was also an
extremely talented artist. He had transferred to the Granite reformatory in order to have access to a potters
wheel and a kiln and art materials.
He was so trusted that he was free to roam the prison grounds from 6:30 a.m. until midnight. Some of his visitors
drove right up to Deputy Warden Randy Parker's home for
coffee and visits on the porch swing. He often accompanied
the Warden's wife to Altus for a day of shopping. Her name
was Bobbi Parker. She is now on trial for aiding his escape
which she denies.
He slipped out of the prison with Bobbi Parker and they lived more than a decade as husband and wife. He said that
she was a hostage until he fell in love with her and they
started sleeping together. He said they had fantastic
luck living from hand to mouth taking temporary jobs all
through Texas. They didn't need much he said, his requirements were a bottle of wine and a pack of cigarettes
and food for the day and enough gas to get around. If all
else failed, they picked up aluminum cans.
His drinking and smoking caused a heart attack and he could
no longer carry his share of the load managing a chicken farm. He regretted that Bobbi had to do all the work and
spend 400.00 a month on his medicine.
While he was in the hospital, she wrote him a love letter.
In it she says she knows that their time together is limited, that she loves him and has no regrets.
Within a few months somebody on America's Most Wanted spotted him and the FBI closed in on the ratty trailer where
they were living.
He exonerated her of all blame and said she would never
have left her three children voluntarily. He died in prison
June 2007 of his heart problem. When captured, he handed
her all the checks they had and his Rolex watch. She handed
him back cash and told him she would not cooperate with
the authorities.
When they were captured, Randy Parker drove all night to
meet her in a hotel lobby in Texas. Now he is standing by her. Do I believe she was innocent? No way Jose. The
jury will have to decide. I know that a passionate love
affair can sweep aside all common sense and that is what
I believed happened. What is your verdict.
