Gloating!

I just picked my first ripe tomato off my Early Girl, today,
June l3. I have never grown one that ripened before July
fourth so I am gloating a bit before I put it in a salad.

Ted and I spent a mini vacation in Branson, Mo. We enjoyed
the entertainment, particularly Shoji Tabuki and his show.
Ted made me go on an amphibian ride which I loathed, we ate
bad food at Mickey Gilley's place and our hotel sucked.
However, we were out and about and enjoyed most of the rest
of the trip and came home feeling refreshed. I nearly froze
on the water but a sweet man loaned me his coat and I was
able to endure it gracefully. Ted loved it. Hundred dollar
bills melt like snow in July in Branson. I am speaking from
experience here.

We left Branson at six a.m. with one cup of coffee and so by
seven, we were looking for something to eat. We stopped at
a little store and were provided with home made sausage biscuits that were to die for, just like Grandma used to make.

We decided that if we didn't have family here, we would move
to Fayetteville. It is so beautiful there and being a college town with a fairly mild climate makes it very
attractive. It is such a pretty, pretty place.

It felt good just to get away and it is always fun to be
back. Rex was happy to leave his suite at the pet boarders
and come home. We missed sleeping with him, big lug that he
is. I saw a huge dog there that looked like a cross between
a golden retriever and a Saint Bernard. It looked just like
Rex but was pure white. Help me out Kristy, what breed was
it?

So glad you're home safely, and that you had nice time. Back in 1970 my folks and I drove through Arkansas, and we thought the same as you - it made us think of what we liked about old-time Colorado, and how if we didn't have our ties back home, it'd be such a nice place to live.

Yes, it was fun even though exhausting. The scenery was gorgeous in the
mountains and the plants were beautiful.

I also planted early girl and forgot to put off a few of the flowers. I ended up with two funny looking long green things. They almost look like grape tomatoes. But even for grape tomatoes they are too long. Sounds like you had a fun trip even with ups and downs. WTG

Yes please send me the links! I will try them next year perhaps!

Early Girls always do better for me than other kinds of tomatoes. I think
because they fruit before the heat gets to them. Mine are medium size and
round and the vines are pretty loaded.

So you don't enjoy being on the water, or was it just that you were cold? I loved the little bit of boating we've done here. Which Fayetteville are you referring to? There are a dozen -- NC, Ark. and many more. Give Rex a kiss for me.

I was freezing and the wind was ferocious and tearing up my hair. Ordinarily
I like the water but this was miserable for me. Fayetteville, Arkansas is
the one I was referring to. I love North Carolina but there are so many
paper mills that foul the atmosphere, I think I would prefer Arkansas.

Yes I'm with Drmaus on the breed!
I'm happy for you that your garden flourishes. I really wish I had someone like you to follow around and learn from for a season... I need help. Buuuut in time and with practice I'm hoping to be a proficient Gardner some day!
Say hi to Rex for me!

Rex gets special treatment at the boarding facility. He has an air conditioned roomette and they let him out in their yard to play in the grass.
He loves the woman who cares for him. It just takes time and effort and
Miracle Grow to be a good gardener but those vegetables are so good.

I have some how to garden videos on my YouTube page if you're interested Kristy I can send you a link. Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and squash.

Great Pyrenees? sounds like those.
comment by drmaus on June 13, 2014 4:11 PM ()
It probably was a Great Pyrenees. It was such a beautiful dog but all I
could think about was the wear and tear on his joints because he was so
huge. Rex is a very large Golden Retriever and that dog simply dwarfed
him. I love big dogs but they require a lot of care.
