Fashion Dilemma

I have a suitable Easter outfit if I can squeeze into it after a winter of self indulgence. It is my queen Elizabeth dress...a sleeveless dress with matching coat in a gorgeous pink. The problem is the Governor's boots and bandanas party in May. Last year, I wore a white prairie dress with a peach colored wrap and white boots. It is a bit too recognizable to wear again...or should I?
This year I was thinking about my Governess dress..a long black dress with my Spanish Shawl if I can find it and black boots. I have a lot of silver Native American jewelry to wear with it. The theme of course is Western but you see everything there.

I started naming my clothes when shopping with a friend. She objected to a severe blue dress suitable for teaching because she said it looked like something a governess in a Jane Austin novel would wear. That was the look I was going for, so I bought it. I am easily amused.

Which brings me around to Jane Austin. There is a hilarious book of Pride and Prejudice set in Pakistan with characters named Darsee and Wickalum. It is just so funny and is called Unmarriageable by Soniah Kamal. Get it from your local library and it will give you a day of amusement. One of the characters is so like the Eastern Indian surgeon that I had. It talked about him pulling himself up to his full five feet six inches in height and I vizualized my Dr doing the same.

It is now summer in Oklahoma. I have engaged the twins to do weekly lawn mowing. Laura is having snow in Colorado and we are needing the air conditioner. She is not really that far away.

I live in SW Florida where flip flops are a fashion statement. My dear sis once said "Oh, you'll change and dress like everyone down here." I said, that ain't gonna happen and it hasn't. I wear eye make-up to go to the super market. It's a New York thing. I wear tights because I can, and get compliments from other women. If it's a fancy dinner, I like to wear white sharkskin pants with a colorful top and my foxy grey sharkskin boots with a heel that makes people think I'm taller. I don't wear dresses any more.
I have long evening style dresses and nowhere to go in them.

It is frustrating not to have enough places to go and take your best of wardrobe clothes out for the evening. I always look forward to the few events that I am invited to go to.

I am of the who cares thought train... I am fat so I don't dress up at all. I wear clothes so I can go out in public and not scare people, but that's about it.

I like the rational for wearing clothes. I probably scare people a lot even when fully clothed. My grand daughter, Laura, has a degree in fashion design and keeps us all interested. We like to have fun with fashion. I recently found a going out of business sale and bought my family and friends one dollar dresses. My sister in law is coming over and wearing hers today to go out to lunch. Believe me, it is a fun thing.

Blue or black, both sound great! But what do I know? I wear the same clothes for three or four days. Have FUN!

The black dress with lots of silver and turquoise jewelry sounds the best.

If you wear the same as last year, they will think you're losing your memory and forgot. 'Tut, tut, Jeri's starting to slip, she wore that exact outfit last year...' Hah!

I think you are right. I have noticed ted is testing me and not in subtle ways. He felt of my coffee cup to see if it was hot this morning.

Your clothes sound fun, especially when you call it Jane-Austen's-governess dress. Long ago I wanted to try to sew versions of vintage Barbie outfits -- Gay Parisienne, Roman Holiday, Evening Gala. They were well made.

I have trouble clearing out my closets because I get attached to my clothing and wear it for years. You must be able to sew well, I tried but am an abject failure.

Women are "funny" about what other women wear. A guy would say, "screw'em", but women... So, can you stand up to the fashion police?
