Dogs That Have Been Extra Special.

I have never bought a dog. Most of them have been foisted on me usually by my son. This just covers the last 25
years of dog ownership.

1. Kelly, a black and tan doberman. A gift from my son.
Kelly was sweet and loving but looked threatening. I swear
that she had a sense of humor.

2. Spike, a male black and tan doberman brought into the household by Ted. He had been used as a guard dog until
Ted brought him home. Ted said he didn't like women but
he fell in love with me. He could articulat two words very plainly. They were, "my mama". Kelly loved him and they
were a beautiful pair.

Muffin, a pet quality Yorkshire Terrier. Too large for
people who liked the tea cup size. She was fearless and
loving. My best beloved of all my dogs. She was a gift
from my son. I don't cry often but I wept buckets for a
week when I lost her.

Wolf, an Alasken Malamute given to me by my son. He was
a very different kind of dog. He liked to be petted but
was more aloof than most dogs and scared the devil out of
most people. He was so intelligent that he learned to
work cattle without any training. He was almost too
protective. He loved to work and was an excellent hunter.
It is a dis-service to have this breed in a hot climate.
They love cold weather and they are definitely bred to
work.

Rex. the first time I saw him in my neighbors yard, he ran
to greet me and was immediately knocked down by Wolf. He
moved to my house and Wolf made him submit every day but he
stayed. The neighbors were abusive. Finally, after three
months, I told my neighbor that he needed neutering and shots and asked her if she wanted me to keep him and take
care of it. She said yes. He absolutely loved the farm.
He could swim every day and run free. He has adapted to
city life quite well. He has become our child. He has
such a wonderful temperment and loves everyone but some men
who remind him of his abusive master. He has definitely
got PTSD from being abused and is frightened of sudden
noises and strange objects. He is right up there with
Muffin in the best beloved category. He adores children
and my youngest grandchild begs us to trade dogs. no way!!

I have three dogs with me now and I love them dearly but the one that meant the most to me was my pit bull, Ceasar. He was my protector during a very rough and lonely time in my life. He has been gone nine years...I had to have him put down due to congestive heart failure and I miss him deeply. Animals love unconditionally unlike people.

What would we do without our companions? Dogs and cats especially but horses have been a part of my life too.

We are all such animal people, aren't we?

Rex is such a character. I loved hearing about the things he'd bring home when you lived out in the country.

Since Rex is a grown up now he only steals glasses and underwear. He has chewed up a gross of sunglasses and he is so tall you have to remember to
put them up higher than a table top.

They all have a best quality. Benny is like that: if a dog brain could be cloned, it should be his. Smartest dog I've ever seen and I can only take credit for part of it.

It is my theory that they are like little children. The more that you interact with them, the smarter they get.

What a nice rundown of your animals. In my childhood I had one dog. My dad gave him away. He walked home from the other side of Chicago (a 2-hour train ride). My dad gave him away again. As an adult I started with Scratch and Sniff, two adorable kittens. I got them to see Jay through his illness because he loved cats. We didn't have them before because he was afraid they would get hurt by his electronics equipment. They are now both gone. I still think of them and have their ashes on my piano. They were super kitties, both.

What a nice thing to do for Jay. When my Dad was so ill with terminal
cancer, I brought him a siamese kitten. She cuddled with him and stayed on
his bed all the time. It was a great comfort for him.

Dobermans do have a sense of humour. The one that peed on my leg then rolled around in the grass laughing his butt off. He was also named Kelly.

Kelly constantly duped Spike and then laughed at him.
