Dog Days

Sirius rising has traditionally meant hot weather and I
can tell you that in Oklahoma we are burning up. We are
supposed to be a mere 95 degrees today but it was l00
yesterday. When I went outside to walk at 6:30, there
was not a breath of air.

As soon as I get back, I water the flowers and tomatoes.
My little herb garden is flourishing but we just get a
few tomatoes every day. The Roma's are doing much better
than the early girls. I have loads of green peppers from
my one plant, but then I always have good luck with them.
It is time to make pesto, per Fredo's instructions.

I had jalapenos planted but a ground critter ate every leaf off of every plant.

It's probably the soil. Peppers are tough for most people around here. Our soil is half rock.

I bet you could grow the jalepenos and chipoltes. They thrive in the
rocky mountain soil in New Mexico.

Pesto is my love. I put it in everything from chili to hamburgers. Survive the heat. It is awful down your way this year. It was over 108F in Dallas yesterday. Our Ohio summer has been unusually 'cool,' in the low to mid 80s most days. Tomorrow it won't go above 68F. A touch of Autumn already?

I would envy your weather but then I think back to all that snow last
winter and I am content with the heat. Hug the Katz for me.

My garden plants are struggling to produce - the cooler spring set them back so much, they are finally starting to get fruit, but there won't be time for it to mature. I don't know what I could have done different, so don't think about it too much. Except when I do think about it, I have to wonder.

It has been the same here. The tomatoes are just now producing enough
and one of them was labeled Early Girl but turned out to be a renegade
roma.

Not this year, but don't give up on me. I might next year.
I'll stop by soon. Jennifer is due any day now. Girl #3 - Nadia Jolene.

Are you gardening this year or are you too busy? Stop by sometime.

I can't grow a decent pepper to save my life. This year I won't get any since a critter ate every one of a dozen plants. All the pole beans were also eaten but the lil buggers missed the bush beans, so not too bad.

I am a pepper genius or else they love the climate which is more likely.
My bell pepper plant is loaded.

Mmmmm pesto!
My tomato plants are dying.... not surprising tho since I left for two weeks and was told they were watered but they are certainly hurting!
Enjoy your produce!

I have enough tomatoes for us, although the vines are scroungy looking.
The twins that mow my lawn brought Rex the biggest, nastiest bone that
they purchased for him. I finally hid it from him.

The one time I tried to grow tomatoes, the plant died within weeks of my ministrations. A friend gave me the plant, I tended it, I watched it, I agonized, it died. Tomatoes are my all time favorite veggie. I envy you your skills.

I think it is weather and miracle grow rather than skill with tomatoes.
They have patio tomatoes that grow in pots...try again because there is
nothing like the flavor of a vine ripe tomato, warm from the sun.
