A Bleeding Heart Liberal's Views

Once again, the Republicans have kept the legalization
of Marijuana off the ballot. Legalizing it would give
this broke state enough money to aid the homeless and it would empty our jails. It would provide relief for
cancer victims and seizure patients. This is very personal to me because Bobby was nauseated his last six
weeks and could hardly keep food down. Pot would have
helped him. Colorado has already seen the economic
benefits of legalized weed. The medical benefits are far
reaching.

There is virtually no money allocated for mental health
treatment and preventative services in our state. Our
teachers need a raise. We are about on par with Mississippi when it comes to education but at least we
haven't closed the libraries as has happened there.

There are people serving long jail sentences for having
a few teaspoons of marijuana. We keep expanding private
prisons to have a place to put them. This is utter
nonsense. It is also extremely expensive.

People certainly shouldn't be going to jail for weed. It doesn't seem to do much good by locking up people for other drugs either. More social involvement would be a good thing, but not the kind of social involvement that happens in prison.

I get so angry at our state government. I have just recently hired a
man to remove three trees. He is homeless and spent all last winter
living in his truck. We need treatment services and services for
the homeless.

You've reminded me about the importance of volunteering for the organizations and charities that do stuff I think is wonderful. It seems the only way to work against certain parties and people.

Volunteering is important and political activism is important. My views
are not popular in this state.

It's such a disheartening time.

It is indeed. Hug those precious babies for me. I was so touched
by Skylar's question about picking up Kraymer from heaven.

The drug laws are key to the racism in states like Mississippi. They won't give up on them because they are determined to oppress minorities. They feel justified because God only wants white people. He just made minorities to give white people a reason to feel good about themselves.

I am generalizing but I think old white men are the most racist, as well
as the Christian right. Oklahoma is almost to the point that Mississippi
is after eight years of Republican nonsense. It is the damnable need
to feel superior that irritates me most.
