He is Not Vermin

Punxsutawney Phil is in danger recently, at least from local law enforcement. A sheriff's office put up a wanted poster about him, charging him with... hmm... possibly the charge would be "lack of candor" or something. Anyway, the man who put it up was mad that Phil predicted only 6 weeks more of winter, and those weeks are gone, with no firm indication of winter's end.

Blaming groundhogs is wrong. There's the question of that man in the top hat who listens to Phil and announces what he's said to the crowd, there is the question of Phil's incarceration prior to his predictions, and so on. Deserves scrutiny.

About 15 years ago I knew a woman who is now sort of a legend in poker news & scandals, which she spent tireless, painstaking years investigating and writing about. She also used to create crossword puzzles, some for poker websites, so Teal's post reminded me about her. Haley is her name, and she is still at it, and just in the most recent posts of her twitterfeed she's revealed a couple of things I didn't know, like how PokerStars is a majority owner of PokerNews.com. I've been away from editing or writing on this subject for many years now, but that's sort of a revelation.

Someday her book about the huge scandals of online poker, including the cheating at UltimateBet and AbsolutePoker, will come out and it will probably be 2,000 pages long at least. Her investigation went on and on. She did incredible work connecting up all of the early events and clues, working very precisely with hand histories and communications of the guilty individuals, and so much more. Very sharp mind.

Sorry the groundhog lied to you but it is very warm here and as a consequence very dry. We had one tiny bit of snow that barely covered the ground. Fire danger is high. I find it h ard to gamble because I
grew up in the depression.

I hate gambling! I cry when I lose!

The only gambling I like are those little fishing ponds at amusement park arcades. The little kids get to keep fishing until they get a prize.

According to family legend, one of my cousins made a lot of money at online and live poker, lost it, totally swore off gambling, then realized that because he was making so much early on and couldn't be bothered to go to college or get a real job, the only thing he knows how to do is gamble, so he's back gambling, supposedly making a living.

I hope he is making a living at it. Must be hard. I could never see the draw of gambling.
