Storm Effects

I just checked the outage maps that West Penn Power has for its customers, and the one flagged right by my friend Brian's road says: 1-20 customers affected, Cause: tree damage; and the estimated repair finish is not until 10pm tonight. It's now 5 days. Then there's 2 more just down the road with the same time estimate, but have just slightly different causes -- equipment damage, and then one says inclement weather.

I'm concerned because this friend uses a cpap machine. I wish he'd drive back the 2 hours to his family's house again.

If I zoom out just a little, the number of outages in the area is astounding. I don't remember a utility failure around here this comprehensive since Verizon's internet was damaged about 20 years ago. To be fair, these unfixed electrical outages involve at least 3 companies. All the region's power companies had massive problems from the storm, but those 3 seem to be doing the worst in fixing things. I don't have confidence in that 10pm estimate either, since they've changed it about 6 times so far.

Wow! Had no idea such things were happening so close to home. NYSEG never takes that long to make thing right. Good luck.

It is so hard to do without things you really need like adequate light for reading, plentiful hot water and h eat. I hope that you have a fireplace and lots of lanterns. Are you affected or is it just Brian?

Last year we went 10 days without electricity and this is a community of 300 seniors, many handicapped, but everyone pulled through.
