I just checked the outage maps that West Penn Power has for its customers, and the one flagged right by my friend Brian's road says: 1-20 customers affected, Cause: tree damage; and the estimated repair finish is not until 10pm tonight. It's now 5 days. Then there's 2 more just down the road with the same time estimate, but have just slightly different causes -- equipment damage, and then one says inclement weather.
I'm concerned because this friend uses a cpap machine. I wish he'd drive back the 2 hours to his family's house again.
If I zoom out just a little, the number of outages in the area is astounding. I don't remember a utility failure around here this comprehensive since Verizon's internet was damaged about 20 years ago. To be fair, these unfixed electrical outages involve at least 3 companies. All the region's power companies had massive problems from the storm, but those 3 seem to be doing the worst in fixing things. I don't have confidence in that 10pm estimate either, since they've changed it about 6 times so far.
