Snowfall

I’m peeking out the front door periodically, wondering how long this predicted snowfall will take. It’s supposed to be anywhere from 6 to 12 inches over the next 24 hours. Started at 3pm today. So far it’s just half an inch or so. I might take a broom to sweep off the porch and steps, or maybe not.

My friend in South America has Covid although he had the first 2 shots, so I’ve been asking his condition daily. He and 3 friends all got sick pretty much the same day, after going out to dinner. It hits really fast, this Omicron variant, and symptoms among them were like a bad cold along with weakness and headache, but no fever.

One lost his voice, and he managed to get to a health center for testing, and sure enough was positive. So I figure all of them have it. The worrisome thing was that the one lady’s 2 young children were staying over, and couldn’t be picked up right away — and these girls hadn’t gotten their shots yet. So far, the kids aren’t sick.

The guy who lost his voice is the kind person who buys my medicine and arranges to get it to me. He’s wonderful. So many things I have to thank him for over the years. He’s kind of a workaholic and helps everyone around him as if it were his job. I hope he gets better fast.

My experience has been that it's a good idea to do some porch & steps sweeping/light shoveling during the storm instead of waiting for it to end and then have lots of inches to deal with.

I always promise myself that when it's really coming down I'll drive up and down the road to the highway every hour to mash down the accumulating snow, but I seldom do it, and I'm never sure if it would have made a difference in the long run.

Yes to mid-storm shoveling. This storm I was trying harder to keep up so it wasn't an avalanche I had to free myself from. Still, most of it came down late in the night. My driveway looks worse than everyone else's because it's a bumpy, uneven blacktop and I do only enough to get the car out. And I swear my side of the street always gets more snow.

Snow hasn't started upstate NY yet (6pm). No telling what we'll get. A mix tomorrow according to the Weather Service, but a few miles makes a big difference. But we don't need to go out until Thursday or so, so no big deal. On the bright side, it won't be -9 again tonight!

You're a good ways north so I guess you're used to colder winters. Temperatures here haven't been very low at all, really. (I kind of miss the frozen, icy mornings of days of yore.) I'm not going to rush out in the next couple of days either. My main concern is to deal with the snow but don't strain my back again.
