Random Stuff

***Writing is hard. All of you who post regularly, congrats.

***One thing we love the internet for: Being able to look up random, silly trivia. I just had to find the words of a couple of sea chanties(also spelled shanties).

***So now I KNOW what to do with a drunken sailor!

***I don't see internet viral stuff, which I regret when I could have used a good laugh. Just the other day I finally discovered What Does The Fox Say. I don't watch TV, so was spared this before now. The Norwegian or Danish guys who made this song specialize in absurd musical video, but I don't want to watch most of them to keep this one seeming special.

***What I do think is utterly worth sharing is the Il Volo guys singing a capella on Yahoo. Yahoo makes some great videos of its own.

It's hard for me to understand why people dislike opera... This isn't opera, but pop opera I guess you'd call it. This video sent me looking for more of their music on iTunes, and I found The Swan. This is so beautiful sung by them it brought tears to my eyes. I was only familiar with it on cello by Yo Yo Ma.

***I'm writing this to avoid other work, clearly. It's also really chilly here, and I don't work well when my hands and feet are cold.

***I get tired of the people who make their living flipping domain names. They're too quick to react to slowness in the market, and when sales online are slow, they'll tell people their domains and websites are worthless. So many of them are trigger-happy when it comes to firing off nasty remarks and Youtube videos that illustrate their sarcastic comments.

The ones I run into on the major forums are also very sensitive and snap at you with vitriol when they think they're being questioned. DNForum has more than a few like that. Reminds me of my father, who became enraged if his authority was challenged.

I learned to write, almost effortlessly, because I started a journal 50 years ago. I used it to say anythng and everything and it loosened the effort. Now when I have a thought, an essay can emerge full blown without much effort. The blog has replaced my journal. I write in it only when I have a crisis that should not be shared. I am also encouraged because the local paper prints 3 out of 5 opinions I send it in a Sound Off page, with my photo.

I love operatic arias -- I find recitatives annoying. Sitting through an opera for 3 hours can be an ordeal. Don't eat and drink first/snore. Many opera stories are mindless. Puccini's La Boheme is eminently watchable all the way through. So is Lakme by Delibes. We had subscription to Sarasota opera company -- they wouldn't give us good season choices because we were newcomers, so we did not renew. Going there was an all-day affair. I kind of miss it.

Wilford Brimley talks just like my father did: the way he makes statements like he knows it all and don't argue with him. It's a situation where I think of my dad when I see him advertising something on TV, but not in a good way. Speaking of songs of the sea and my dad, his favorite song was The Mermaid - his dad got drunk every weekend and would sing that song. The refrain has the words: We poor sailors go skipping to the masts, And the landlubbers lay down below, below, below, the landlubbers lay down below. https://youtu.be/F1dd7FDnsbc - a fun version of it.

I think opera has been given a bad rap. I like to write because it is an
exercise that keeps senility at bay. I don't have a lot to say but
organizing one's thoughts is valuable and I thank you all for reading my
posts and for your comments.
