Phone

I traded up for a new iphone -- but I actually get to keep the old one, which I've paid fully for, now -- and I am not pleased. It's twice as fragile as the old one. To start with, it has a glass back, so I can break it more easily. And now they don't sell little scratch protectors that you stick on; they instead sell you a glass cover for $40. I didn't have money for that, so I will have to consider that for later. I did of course get the insurance.

My old phone had a metal back, and I'd dropped it from time to time without harm, but now I don't feel secure handling this piece of glass.

At the store, after I finally signed everything, my phone number has been switched to the new device, and I've told the salesman I could load the backup of my phone at home, he suddenly tells me I have to pay $49 to take the phone home. (They make you pay the sales tax on the phone up front.) Nice of him to let me know that, after my old phone has already been shut off.

I do need this type of phone because it's reliable, strong, carries the apps that we use for work and keeping in contact. But honestly, I hate the phone companies. And Apple is not so shining in my sight these days.

I feel like those cell phone programs are designed for employees of large corporations who get their phone through work and the individual employees don't feel the pinch, like health insurance. I made a neoprene phone case from a beer cosy, and I love it because it has a place for the pen/stylus that I need for the key pads. I'll post a photo.

Padded to protect it, that's just right. No beer cozies here, or I'd probably try that. And I'd have to attach a long strap since I wear it cross-body.

I'm way behind the curve on using smart phones, but I got one for Ed and I would like some of its advantages, so maybe I'll piggyback on the plan I got for him with Verizon. I wish the world wasn't so fast that I find it hard to catch up. Sorry you got trapped into a bad situation. Ed has a Samsung, luckily not the model that was blowing up. And it was about $200.

I think everybody has trouble catching up. I'm a little mad that I have to get used to a new phone, and this using the cloud business, to retrieve data that was on your phone? It's a pain in the neck. Doesn't always work, either.

And I am sticking to my Samsung phone that I got free from Metro pCS!

Samsung seems a decent brand. If not for work, I'd have a regular phone not a smart one.
