The Mist - Yuck.

Last night I made the mistake of watching a little more of a Netflix show called The Mist. I’m through with it now, because there was something really diseased about its female characterization. In most horror movie the characters show such poor judgement that you’re yelling at the TV, but usually it’s laughable, and at some point they wise up and save themselves. But in this, something about the characters’ unspeakable judgement, religiousness, and attitudes towards females (by the females themselves, as well) was just… deformed. I’m not interested in seeing any of these actors in anything else.

The show is supposedly based on a novella of Stephen King’s and I kept watching, hoping to see something resembling the original. No, the writing seems entirely new. The original story was a scary thing about an unnatural weather event, probably caused by Army experiments, with all sorts of monsters appearing to kill the humans, who are trapped in a grocery store.
But from the first episode on, 3 or so plot lines all involving rough sex and/or rape were the focus. Yes — it was a Harvey Weinstein production. You could have guessed.

I kind of avoid degradation themes and violence, and also most war movies. I like clean-cut violence, as in the Transporter movies. An admirable character trouncing the bad guys. It should go without saying, that I have never seen Silence of the Lambs.

Speaking of Stephen King reminds me of how he described the way he gets ideas for his stories - saw a state trooper working an accident scene where a car went into the ditch = a scary story, I can't remember what story came from it.

So many short stories, I wouldn't know. It's getting so you can name an idea and the likelihood he's written something on it is pretty good. I am still amazed at the novel Running Man, which has a use of an airplane that prefigures 9/11; and then there's the Greg Stillson character in Dead Zone, who a lot of people see as a good parallel to Trump.

Ugh! No need to clutter up the mind with stuff like this.

No reason. Whatsoever!

No I wouldn't have guessed--did he write it? Did he direct it? Did he act in it?

If you're giving the thumbs-down thing to me to suggest that a producer doesn't do the writing or creating, that's fair. I'd actually appreciate knowing more about that if you ever did a post on it. But I do notice that, looking through a list of Weinstein produced works, that the predominating theme is of lower-class garbage pieces that capitalize on some of the worst social impulses.
