Gay Pride Parade

Very late last night, I was about to make a post about the Pittsburgh Gay Pride Parade here, because it had gotten bigger than ever and I'd noticed that major streets downtown were going to be closed off for 2 full days. We've just gotten over traffic jams into town due to Penguin games, so I've been checking for that kind of thing. Then I fell asleep.

How horrible that this morning I look at the news, and this event in another city was targeted by a mass killer. Only the shooting took place in a crowded nightclub so everyone was more vulnerable. The shooter was said to be of Middle-eastern descent, but this may have been the domestic kind of terrorism.

This might have happened here, or any city. Vicious, and horrific. If it had happened here, I'd have felt -- betrayed, or something. Nobody should come here and do that. I bet Orlando feels like that.

I am heartsick. Life is precious and every death is a circle of grief.

Apparently the candidate in question below ignored it and complained about his opponent's ad instead.

Welcome to 'our' world! And the younger generation wants to know why I bristle when I hear "Gays have come a long way!"

Don't bristle dear one. There have been advances, and no one is saying the fight doesn't go on. Look at Obama. When he was elected, the perception was that racism was on the way out and instead a new wave of terrified idiots started attacking him and suddenly it was all right again to do that. And don't get me started about Hillary bashing and being told she isn't being held to a stricter standard because she's a woman. Never home free, an old friend used to say.

Our new society order is hooliganism, and even worse, I'm half expecting a certain presidential candidate to dismiss it with some kind of a bad joke.
