The Coffee Cup, and Other Things

I don’t have HBO and haven’t seen it yet, but I read about the “mistake” in the latest episode of Game of Thrones of leaving an obviously modern coffee cup & lid on a table in a scene. The event immediately spawned a few new domain registrations. I got curious enough to look up related domains to see which were taken: (I admit I registered one, couldn’t resist. I have to stop doing that)

Something today reminded me of that Hearts Of Space radio program, which is now only online and it's by paid subscription. I miss that program - it played eerie, pretty music late at night.

I visited the site, HOS.com and found there's "Free Stuff" at the top, which I clicked, and it's been playing music for around an hour now. It's pretty if you like this sort of thing.

How do people make good coffee? I thought I was easy to please with coffee. I ran out of instant and am using the ground kind that I had a fresh can of (Maxwell House), and it's terrible. Bitter and sour. It doesn't even smell good -- which I thought all drip coffee did. Probably if I just got a good kind, that would help. I have really clean filtered water, from a ZeroWater filter, but it didn't help any.

I use a Keurig and buy French roast, Italian roast, and Gevalia Dark Royal roast. I'm satisfied. I've been around the block on coffee, also using a glass carafe with a filter years ago. That's a drip method. But the best coffee I've ever had has been on Pine Island, FL at Red's, a restaurant now closed. They used a special system and when we inquired about it, we learned the machine cost thousands. The Plaza in New York City also had great coffee in its restaurants.

This is some of the best coffee I have ever tasted. Well worth the investment!

We love Folger's black silk. I don't like the pod coffee, I drip it.
I drink it black and way too much of it.

By the way, I don't watch it either, saw an article today, realized there's some weird names for people in it, and people will probably be naming their babies those names just to show the world they're in on it.

A lot of it is the quality/flavor of the coffee you buy. I like dark roast (but not that burned-tasting Starbucks), use 2 1/2 tbsp grounds for 4 cups of water. This is probably weaker than a lot of people like, and weaker than the directions on the coffee but it's a starting place. We were in a Las Vegas Walmart one time, contemplating the selection of coffee, and some perky old guy came up and said: "Dunkin Doughnuts - the best coffee in the world." Percolated coffee is different from drip in that the water is circulated through the grounds several times, but I don't get carried away worrying about whether one way is better. I think some people drink coffee so they have an excuse to consume those fancy-flavored creamers. Not me, I drink it black or sometimes I zap some milk in the microwave and whisk it briskly so it gets foamy.

I have a picture of you measuring a heaping spoon of ground coffee, putting it in a cup and stirring in hot water--please, please tell me I am wrong!!

When it first started I watched 2 episodes of GOT and never went back!
