Breathing is Good

With the weird back-and-forth weather everyone across the country has had, I think this has added to the opportunities flu and cold viruses have had to grab us. I don’t usually get colds, but I am fighting the worst one I think I may ever have had. “Only a cold.” I thought I was going to suffocate from coughing two days ago, when my trigger to cough wouldn’t stop. I had trouble stopping the cough to inhale.

So now I’m stocking up on cough suppressant (with guaifenesin, and sometimes decongestant. they’re important too). I was reading about it, because it never seemed to me as a serious medicine. I thought it was like honey or something you could drink that would locally affect your throat, but it’s not. It works in your brain. Anyway, it’s made me not afraid I’m going to die from this powerful coughing.

i had to call our internet host company yesterday despite sounding like I’ve been gargling rocks, and the woman on the phone was sympathetic. She’d just gotten over the flu, but went to a show where they released some smoke onstage for some reason, and her throat closed up and she had to run out of the concert hall.

I really hate that feeling and I always panic when I am gasping for breath. At the first sign of a cold, I load up on Vitamin C...about 1000 milligrams, take aleve and benedryl. It usually keeps me from getting a really bad one and shortens the time. Fingers crossed for you!

Getting better, even slept more last night. Vitamin C, check. But I must be extremely careful about benadryl. It makes it too hard to cough, dries me out. With each cold I keep forgetting that, and unfortunately took it for a couple of days. My friend Mike thinks my biggest problem is forced-air heat, and is trying to make me promise to move to a place with steam radiators.

I breathe every day--just for the heck of it!
Get well!

I've had several severe URIs over the past 6 years. One was so bad, I couldn't swallow anything including water and had to go to the ER. I am super vigilant and whenever I feel something coming on, I gargle with Listerine. It is super effective. Hope you feel better soon.

That is downright frightening. I think I'll start with Listerine too.

Hope it gets better real soon. The jet stream maps show how it has consistently missed the west which is warmer than normal, then swooped down over the midwest bringing maximum winter.

I've had those 'colds' in the past where talking dried out my throat (or something) and I couldn't stop coughing. I'd be on the phone when it started, couldn't talk at all, and had to throw a magazine at someone else in the room to get their attention so they could help.

One of your homes is in the desert, one in the dry mountain air. I hope you have indoor water stations or something for yourself! I would need a spacesuit to survive there.
