Tampa Bay Murder Trials and More

Two trials in which the mothers are charged with killing their children are in progress- or pending in our area.

Casey Anthony is on trial for murdering her daughter, Calley. The first pool of jurors had to be dismissed because jurors discussed the case. Then, one man in the second pool defied a court order and deliberately talked about the trial with the intention of getting dismissed. The judge fined him. Now, Casey's attorney's have disclosed part of their defense strategy. They suggest Casey's father abused her, and may suggest that he killed Calley as well. After all, he owned the car Casey drove- had access to Calley, owned the shovel used to bury her. Wow! It gets uglier by the day.

Then there is Julie Schenecker, the woman in Tampa who shot and killed her two teenage children for talking back to her in January. Her husband filed for divorce and Julie wants half of the marital assests, $40K to pay her defense attorneys, medical benefits and more. Of course, she is also demanding that their home be sold and the proceeds divided equally. While she admits to killing her children, she denies responsibility because she was depressed.

Blaming parents, blaming illness- it's everybody's fault but their own.

The flooding along the Mississipi River is also disturbing. Buy rice now- lots of it- because the price of rice is going to climb! Arkansas is the world's 3rd largest exporter of rice but those fields are all flooded out this year. How callous of me! People are homeless and I think first of rice?

Tornadoes ripping through the south last month and now flooding of the Mississipi and its tributaries-ugh. The Ohio River is flooded too, but not as much as the Mississipi. This makes me afraid. June through December is hurricane season in the south. Please, don't let this be a bad one!

Mother Nature has definitely wrecked havoc on us this year. Let's just pray that we escape the hurricanes. I am still wondering what is going to happen when all this water hits New Orleans. I know that the Corps of Engineers is thinking of diverting some of it, but that also results in loss of homes and crops.

They did divert some already- and yes, people were flooded out, but it temporarily averted a much bigger problem in the lower delta area.

Well, one of my thoughts was about what the flooding in Illinois is going to do to corn prices so we think alike. I saw some headline that the govt says food prices are going to go down in a few months, but not if there are crop shortages caused by the flooding. We all got plenty of that 'help find little Calley' on the other blog, when all along she was already dead.

Yes, and that dear fellow blogger had to remove her blog because it was being abused by investigators, etc., I won't mention her name/handle because I do not wish to draw more unwanted attention to her.

For the life of me, I do not know how any lawyer can defend this woman. They just want the big cases so they can get their names in the paper and hike their fees.

I am appalled by the defenses in both cases! Even if Casey was sexually abused as a child, 1 in 4 women experience some form of sexual abuse, and while I acknowledge how devastating it is especially to the emotional development of children, it is no excuse for murder!

How could they! I do not understand such dysfunction and rage. I hate the
flooding and the suffering it causes. It impacts the people who are very
poor and can't afford insurance which leads me to wonder if flood insurance
is still available in flood prone areas. We have our inside closets
stocked with survival items in case of a tornado. The weather is so unstable until June 30th and then here come the hurricanes.

The way the weather has been, the hurricane season is of great concern to me this year.

Ugly is right--in all you mentioned. Fortunately, I don't eat much rice (I don't grow it!). The flooding concerns me. So many are affected, one way of another.

The flood conditions are not improving. How very sad.

Little Calley Anthony bore a striking resemblence to my little niece Daisey May. When that story first broke I can't tell you how that effected all of us. I agree....no one takes responsibility for their own actions anymore. I for one hope they convict and execute the baby killing b--ch in the most painful way possible
