I Love This Time of Year!

It is finally getting cool enough to wear long pants during the day and sleeves on my nightgowns at night. The next few weeks/months is when I love Florida the most. The birds are returning. We always have lots of birds, but so many more migrate from the northern states, and other birds like the white pelicans come from wherever they spend the rest of the year.

It is Trick-or-Treat night and I have to get up every two minutes to answer the door. I don't mind, but it interrupts my train of thought.

I am in trouble again with my son. Between all of the auto repairs and replacing my water heater, I really cannot afford to go up to Pennsylvania this year. Plus, in November my property taxes are due, Christmas is in December, My HOA fees are due in January- I still need tires on my car, my dogs need to get their shots, already overdue... I am drowning in expenses, and between airfares, parking at the airport and kennel fees (which also means getting their shots FIRST or they won't take them), a trip right now would cost over a thousand dollars. My Bahama trip with my girlfriend cost me $156 ($56 in port fees and another friend watched my dogs for $100, but that friend is returning to North Carolina next week), and the Auxiliary paid for my trip to Jacksonville for the conference. He doesn't get it- his mother is not financially well-off!!

I have more that I wanted to say, but the doorbell keeps interrupting me. What was it?

I relate. Thank goodness I had a daughter who had the money and loved me enough to pay my air fare to come see her when she lived too far away for me to drive.

A roommate might be just the thing to help you with your expenses.

In the past, my son has offered to pay the air fare, but there are still the parking fees, cost of the kennel (and dog shots), which is four times more than the air fare. I need a roommate to cut down on expenses like this. My roommate could watch the dogs.

I have fifty something children and they don't seem to understand about
their parents financial obligations, or that they still want to have fun.
You are right about this time of year...it is magical.

Have fun? I am afraid to tell my son that I went to the Bahamas and spent $156!!!!

You are like me, every month, right down to the last dollar. Every month, the last week is peanut butter on toast week.

Yes, I live in a nice house, but I can barely afford it. I bought this house while I was working and now I definitely live down to the last dollar!

Funny, but 2 of my 4 kids don't want me to come and visit. I'm too much of an inconvenience and disruption, I reckon. Sorry 'bout your financial woes. It's always something, eh?

Yes, always something. I still have my 401K but it will be a few years yet before I can draw it out.

Watching my friends' thirty-something children, I get the impression they have no idea about their parents' finances. They'll say things like "we'll take your house if you want to give it to us" forgetting the parents have their own mortgage and obligations.
