There is an article in the news today about people using ultralights to teach whooping cranes their old migration routes from Wisconsin to Florida. It did not discuss how/why the birds changed their routes; just the need to reestablish the old routes and how they are accomplishing that. As brief and incomplete as the article was, I found it fascinating.

Along the same lines, we have droves of white pelicans in the winter. I know I've mentioned them in past posts and posted pictures. They arrive mid to late November and disappear in mid-March. I got to wondering where they come from and was amazed to see how far they fly. They migrate from Canada and the Dakotas to Florida every year. Wonder if that explains why we have more Canadians in Florida in winter than we have Americans! (humor)
By the way- there are a few places in Texas and Mexico where they live year-round. Are these the pelican retiree/senior centers? I am just full of silliness today!
