Art for a Local Church

A local Catholic church, rather than spending hundreds or possibly thousands of dollars on art depicting the twelve Stations of the Cross (Catholics will know what this is) asked local artists to paint the 12 stations no larger than 8"x10". The stations are usually small pieces placed around the church in a circle starting and ending at the altar. Well, I received an email from a former member of the Auxiliary who is a member of this church asking me to paint the 9th station of the cross- Jesus falls for the third time (while carrying the cross).
I truly admire the work of one artist, Brian Jekel. He paints a lot of religious/spiritual art. I used one of his pieces as the basis of mine but personalized it. Since I normally detail things to death, I tried to avoid that with this piece. I don't know if this looks too much like his work to be "legal" but it is for a church, not for profit.

During the day, I often run into things that I think I should include in my blog, but then I sit down at the keyboard and I forget everything that I wanted to mention. I can think of one thing:
I am so glad to see Fredo back! Yeah!

It is lovely and will be a great contribution to the church. I will have to google Brian Jekel.

I don't know what he paints besides religious art, but his religious art is moving.

That's just lovely, Dottie. What an honor to have your work displayed in that setting. I looked at the Jekel painting, and I think yours is different enough because it is a close-up interpretation of his idea.

I so love his work! This is closer, and there is also the hand on Jesus' shoulder not present in his work. When I prayed the Stations of the Cross so many decades ago, I remember wanting to reach out to touch Jesus. I hope the church likes it.

I like it. I love the work of Brian Jekel so much that I just naturally thought of him when asked to do this.
