TV Free Days

I have satellite TV with Bell since cable has not reached where I live. A few days ago, it wouldn't connect to the satellite. Turns out that I need a new PVR/receiver for $150. I've already replaced this PVR once, and the contract is over, so I'm going with another company.

Since the free-to-air channels have gone digital, and I don't have a digital box, I'm without TV for a whole 8 days until the new company comes to install their equipment. My children are heartbroken! Oh well, they can watch DVDs instead.

I'm getting a deal. $15/month off for the first 6 months & free PVR rental. Yes, rental!! Yeah! I grilled the poor east indian guy I was talking to on the phone - rental means that if the receiver/PVR stops working, I don't have to pay for a new one, RIGHT?? Right! yeah! They will come and fix or replace it. No spending $150 on a new one.

Gee, with no TV, I have more time to blog! But I do miss the news and weather and silly shows like What Not to Wear and the various Hoarding shows. At least I'll have TV again before the new seasons of most shows start. :)

God, I *hate* iCarly! I felt really badly about Julian watching TV in the mornings (it doesn't run non stop or anything...there are just certain shows he's really addicted to, like the Cat In the Hat) until I read an article about the language benefits of television watching for children with Autism. Now, I don't feel like a bad mother.

But iCarly....have I mentioned that I HATE that show?!

I barely watch any TV, aside from a few favourite TV shows. I watch more DVDs than anything. But with that said I can't imagine what Julian would do without Treehouse.

TV is such a good babysitter!
But I'm REALLY enjoying the silence. No freaking sponge bob, kid vs. cat or iCarly for over a week!

Since I cut my DISH network package to the "basics" ($15/mo), I'm a happy camper. Less crap to contend and pay for. Don't miss it one iota.

I miss the news & weather, but it's so much more peaceful without the damned thing on all the time!

You haven't missed any good shows.

I watch Rookie Blues, so I'm going to miss an episode or two. I'll survive though.

My leased PVR fails about once a year and has to be replaced. It doesn't usually cost anything, but this latest one has problems and they want to send a technician for $95, or sign me up for the $6 a month 'protection' program. I'm thinking about it.

When I phoned to cancel the Bell service, they offered me a free HD PVR if I stayed with them!!! Thanks, but you should have offered it the first time I phoned! I'm still switching.

Remember radio--oh you have to work and use your imagination but it can be fun!!!
I am surprised the kids haven't sued you for parental abuse!!!

The kids have adjusted well, and I'm enjoying the lack of stupid cartoons! Yup, radio is good too.
