Drmaus asked me for pics of my adopted babies I take care of here in Jakarta...so here they are.
I have five indoor cats who have never been outside...all females and they are:
Katie. She will be 8 years old on the 13th of October this year...she was born the very day I arrived in Jakarta..her mother managed to find her way into the house and had her kittens under the stairs. Her sister Molly only lived for a couple of years, then I had to have her euthenized because she got an infection in her eye which destroyed it and finally the infection got to her brain and she was in terrible pain, so the vet came over and put her to sleep.
Amy. Amy should have been a boy, she's the toughy of the bunch, a bully who likes to have her own way. She cannot or will not drink water from a bowl, you have to turn the tap on in the kitchen and she only drinks fresh running water from the tap. No matter how thirsty she gets, she will wait until someone turns the tap on for her.
Cassie and Cindy. Cassie (on the left) and Cindy are sisters, their mom died when they were very tiny and I had to hand feed them and I didnt think they'd survive...but as you can see they not only survived, they are both fat and healthy.
And last but not least:
Sweetpea. The brain damaged kitten I fished out of the gutter.
Cindy Cassie and Amy lying on my bed....they're clean so they get to sleep on my bed sometimes...lol.
I have/had many outdoor cats that come over for a feed twice a day but they never come inside and are free to roam around and come and go as they please. My garage which is a big (two-car) area is left slightly open and they use it as their safe haven and it is where I feed them twice a day. Some stay in the garage most of the time but others come and go and sometimes I wont see them for days, some have disappeared altogether..like Alley's brother Thomas. Some have died (from old age) and a couple I've had to have put to sleep because they've gotten sick or were run over or hit by a car...like Bert who is Ernie's brother. Anyway, here's some more pics....all these cats live outside and although I've named them, they are not actually MY cats, they are feral and live on the streets.
This was Lily, Bert and Ernie's mom, she had another litter of kittens after Bert and Ernie but they died. She was very sick at the time and she also died. I couldnt take her to the vet because it was impossible to catch her, she was feral and sometimes as hard as it is, you have to let nature take its course. She was old already and I think she just had too many kittens. That's the trouble with strays that are not spayed, they are pregnant and have kittens all the time and it eventually kills them.
This was my favorite boy Bert...I used to call him Bertie-Bert....he was such a clown and made me laugh all the time. He was also the one who caused the fight with Amy where my foot got thoroughly mangled when I tried to separate them...I wrote about it and posted pics of my mangled foot...I dont know if you remember that. Bert unfortunately got run over by a car and his pelvic bone was crushed so he had to be put down.
This is Bert's sister Ernie (yes, Ernie is a girl) with Oscar, the resident tom of the street. I dont know if he was Bert and Ernie's dad but he sure loved them and used to groom them and play with them. By the way, the curly stumpy tail is an Asian cat gene thing...many asian cats carry a genetic abnormality and many are born with short or stumpy or deformed tails.
This is Alley (as in Alley Cat) she used to be an inside cat but she decided she didnt want to live inside and went out and never came back in. She still comes home twice a day for her food but she roams the streets and I have found her as far away as the corner store once.
This is Thomas, Alley's brother....who had to go outside when he got big and started spraying all over the place. He loved living outside and became the resident tom and probably fathered a few kittens around the place. He used to come home twice a day for meals and then one day he just never came back. I searched for him for about two weeks and I never saw him again.
I've had more cats come and go but I havent taken pics of all of them. I've got Jet, Little-Baby, Mickey, Missy, and Misty at the moment....all outdoor cats living in and out of my garage. I will take pics of these ones one day soon and post them when I can.
The ones that have died/disappeared are Oscars 1 and 2, Fugly, Jaffa, Sophie, Tiger, another Lily (after Bert and Ernie's) who looked just like the first Lily so I named her Lily too. Same as Oscar 2, he looked a lot like the first Oscar so after Oscar 1 died, I just named his Oscar 2.
Over the last 8 years I've had probably about two dozen cats come through my little shelter, all the females get spayed if I can catch them...and I have litter boxes in the garage for those who decided they dont want to leave...and they get Whiskas cans and Friskies biscuits which is costing me an absolute fortune...lol.
