Waterfall

We have a side stream called Rabbit Creek that feeds into the Big Thompson River out in front of my house. Due to recent snow and rain, there is more water in than I have seen in more than a decade.

Here is the water going into the river:

Upstream about 1/2 a mile is a nice waterfall:

Most years we are lucky if there is a trickle of water coming through the rocks.

There is a point on the way where you hear the waterfall, just about when the hike starts to seem a little bit too long.

It is lovely. Hiking to it would be fun and good exercise.

I wish the path was better - if it was, it'd be an easy and fun walk. Now, it's kind of fussy and discouraging.

Is that a bar of soap on a rock???
comment by steeve on May 11, 2013 3:51 PM ()
I don't see anything remotely resembling a bar of soap anywhere in either picture. I am going to stop looking now.

If it is it is probably "Ivory"soap. When I was a kid during the summer my dad use to take us swimming on the Moose river, which was about a mile from our house. My ever-thinking mother would send us with a wash cloth, towel, and a bar of soap. It had to be "Ivory" for the simple reason that it was one of the few soaps that floated in the water, that way we'd never lose it..unless that is that you let it float down river over the falls(which lay about 100 ft down from us)

No, probably lichen.

There is a waterfall up near Lake Placid, NY that is truly magnificent. I don't if it even has a name, but it comes out of a side of a rock ledge. The road that it's on is a n the area called the cascades

There is something special about waterfalls - the music of the water and the energy.

Beautiful, a real garden spot.

Last year when we were up there (less water) a hummingbird was taking baths in the water.

I know it's trite, but I wish you could send some of that here.

I love waterfall.Something mysterious about it.The flow of the water etc. While in Guatemala on our bus trip to the Indian market there is a beautiful water falls from mountain so high.
The drive will stop to let the tourist take pictures if they like.I know having one somewhere and I will be darn if I can find it.Have so many pictures and neglect to item them.Lazy I guess.
But this was no trickle really flowing. These pictures are wonderful and loved to see them as painting. So you should get back to this.

I know that feeling of losing a picture.

More water has to be a good sign no matter where it's coming from. Nice falls, we have something like that around here, but much smaller.

We need to make a nicer path going there. Maybe invite 100 people to walk it and wear it down.

The water is so welcome!

After the dry winter, the spring snows really saved us. Of course, now we're awaiting the monsoon season - no guarantee it's coming. (It's always something, isn't it?)
