What's in There?

Do you keep a want list? I have so much stuff, four houses plus two free-standing garages and a cute little cabin full, there is very little I want these days.

When I do discover something I think I might want, I look at it online, and bookmark the page, saving it to a folder called Shopping. Most of the time I forget that I had wanted it, but if I remember, I go back to that webpage.

Once I'm serious about making a purchase, or more serious than I was, I make a spreadsheet to compare likely candidates for purchase, including shipping and taxes in order to determine where it's best to buy the item. All of our nearby towns have varying sales tax amounts, so that enters in, as well as delivery charges.

Speaking of my cute little cabin, I know you'd like to know what is inside it.

My amazon cart is like that... I put stuff there then either buy it a few days later, save it for later or add it to a wishlist.

Sometimes I'm glad I waited because a lot of the time I'll decide I didn't need that thing after all. But once in awhile - just gotta have it.

I loved the fabric this is the love of my life.Enjoyed them a lot.

I thought I was going to use up all the fabric my mother left, but have quite a ways to go to put a dent in it. Doesn't matter, like you, I enjoy looking at it.

I love the painter's box!

I'll have to post the inside of it some time. There are drawers and a place to hang brushes inside, and you can tell it got a lot of use. My mother used it for carrying her wallpapering tools.

So your cute little cabin is mainly for storage? Our garage is mainly for storage. Ed won't let me throw anything out and won't get rid of New York furniture that can't be used here, including a French bed that needs a custom mattress, and the fabric on the carved headboard must be replaced. It is queen size and we now have a modern king. I can tell you that having a larger bed is a wonder because Ed is a restless sleeper. And, of course, sometimes more than one cat marks his space.

Yes, that particular cabin is storage because it doesn't have water or a bathroom. It was built in the 1930s. There was another one just like it on the other side of the yard that washed away in the big 1976 flood.

This is how those people on "hoarders" get started

I'd love to rummage through that trunk full of fabrics.
comment by nittineedles on Mar 3, 2013 7:39 PM ()
Just looking at the picture makes me want to rummage through there again because it has been a few years since I had it out. That material on the right with the pink flowers? Those are gray cats, and I had a dress made from that in the 1960s.

Occasionally there is something I need. Usually a tool. Then I figure, why buy it when I'll only use it once. Could have saved a few bucks on the plumber if I had bought a torch and a few other things. A list would make things easier for Donna around Christmas and my b-day. She's getting me a vest for summer that I just about picked out myself. Some things I don't prefer to buy online, especially clothes, but in the case of the vest, we couldn't find a light one anywhere else.

We inherited this place full of stuff and in the case of the garages, especially, don't know what we have. One thing was a fancy battery charger we discovered the year before last, and have used it at least 5 times since, including yesterday.

That's one of the many reasons I love about getting old--getting rid of 'stuff'--less things to take care of, to clean, to sort, etc., and most family members will only throw all of it out@

It's liberating to be in the liquidating mode, but when it comes time to give someone a gift, I'm totally at a loss because I can't imagine why anyone would want to crap up their house with more knick knacks.

You're so organized...I can't stand it.
comment by steeve on Mar 3, 2013 5:35 PM ()
Organized in some ways, maybe not so much in others. But I decided whatever bugs me, I'm going to do something about it, even if it costs money. So, for example, instead of limping around with one spray bottle between us, I went out and bought five of them. Woo hoo! Spending big!
