What's in the Camera: Cats

Eloise dug this piece of foam rubber out of the closet and brought it up onto the day bed. She pulled bits off of it, and they stuck to her fur then got scattered all over the house. She also shredded a brown paper sack and bits of it started showing up all over the house, too.

The other day we went out to dinner and left both cats inside the house, the first time we weren't there to intervene if they started fighting. We didn't know what to expect when we got home, but both of them on the same bed had not crossed our minds. I think Eloise just wanted to guard her spot.

Chitty is not bothered. She likes taking over Eloise's favorite spots.

There is no doubt that Chitty will have to segue into being mostly a house cat. My friend, Nadine, rescued a feral cat and he became a house cat but would, from time to time, run out a just opened door and be gone for a day then come home and park outside the door and meow to be let in. I don't know how you will be able to keep him indoors in Colorado because it is such a wonderful place for a cat to be outdoors. I agree it would be dangerous. My cat Max loves going into the outdoor screened-in pool area. The other day, the pool guy didn't close the screen door properly. When I went to check on him before retiring, I couldn't find him. Then I rechecked the pool area and saw him outside, waiting by the door. That was scary because kitties get disoriented sometimes and can't find their way back. I am grateful he didn't wander away.

We've often confined our cats to the house for years, thinking they would run off, but when we finally let them out, they did just fine. My dad had a cat up here that lived outdoors and in that free-standing garage (with cat door) for years. I think Chitty would do okay as an outside cat with inside privileges, and if something ate her, at least she died being a cat instead of a lap dog.

I think Eloise needs some new cat toys.
Did you take both cats to Colorado?

Chitty is still in Las Vegas. There are things we have to get straight in our minds about bringing her to Colorado, such as being in a car for 13 hours with a cat we don't know very well, and she is more of an outside cat, and something might eat her if she is outdoors too much here. But look at how far we've come from when I thought we'd never feed her, and now we feed her all the time and let her sleep in the house.

So pretty!

They look a lot alike, especially from certain angles. Chitty has shorter fur, and is so soft and boneless when we pick her up.

my cat prefers to shred paper towels. beautiful kitties you have there!

Our old cat used to molest the toilet paper during the night. This is Eloise's latest thing - you know how cats are, they'll start doing something on a regular basis, and next thing you know they've moved on to doing something else and never do that first thing again.

Yes, all is well. Very dry; I'm hoping the weather takes a turn for the snowy.

Wha oh ... are you guys creeping up to adopting Chitty? They look like they might really bond. One good sign is that they are lounging near each other.

We'll adopt Chitty if we decide she is homeless, but we don't know for sure. She roams the neighborhood, and if we considered her to be ours, we'd worry when she was out and about. The other day we saw her crossing the street, and we had thought she just went back and forth over the back wall.

You have the patience of a saint to wrangle all those cats at your house.
