Spring on the River

It's a beautiful spring day here. For awhile it was sunny and bit muggy for here (52% humidity) but then a few clouds showed up and there was a light breeze, just perfect weather.

The trees are just starting to leaf out and the grass is greening up. This afternoon I sat on the bridge and watched a mallard duck taking a nap on the riverbank.

I see these lovely photos of your river, and I'd love to sit and watch the flow of it over the rocky bottom. I always wish, when I think about it, that the photos came with the sounds of the water running with joy over the stones.

I have a chair handy out next to the bridge so I can pull it over and just sit and watch the water. It never gets old.

I bet the water is still cold!

It is pretty cold, but not glacial, because it passes through a big lake to get here, so has a chance to absorb some sun.

How sad that Mr. Fox may be forever gone. I can't imagine he wouldn't have come back if he was all right.

That's what I think, too. Even if this was no longer his territory, I think he would have come back at least once by now. I always knew it would happen some day, and consider myself lucky to have enjoyed his company for three years.

Lovely spot -- never get tired of your photos of the river. Tell jon about Quacker. You should visit him in his new home.

We might go next week. That campground was in jeopardy of being closed, but they recently got a reprieve, so we'll use that for an excuse to drop in. The woman there is one of those hard-bitten little know-it-alls. I'm sure she's nice enough, because after all, she welcomed Quackers, but I don't like her very much.

Looks so peaceful there. Not if I was an artist or a writer that will be the ideal place.

There is plenty to look at, that's for sure. It's the exact opposite of our place in Las Vegas.

That's the pump house for the lawn irrigation. Those black pipes carry the water all over the yards.

Your river makes the Virgin River here look like a little creek.

The entire river bed was remade and shaped after the devastating 1976 flood, and I can just about remember the way it used to be. For one thing, the front of our 100 year old (this year) house faced the water, and now our front windows just look straight at the cabin next door. No, the house didn't move in the flood, the river was moved. I wish when they were doing it, they'd made it a little the riverbed narrower in here because I think it'd be noisier and more interesting. One good thing is that it is more flood proof.

Has you Quacker ever shown up?
comment by jondude on May 17, 2013 6:05 PM ()
I think you mean the fox. No, he has never shown up this year. I have had dreams about him being seen around the property. I call to him Fox! Fox! (because I never gave him a name) and he looks over his shoulder at me, but continues to walk away. Amnesia. There are wild foxes that are so shy they come in the dark and clean up the cat food dregs that Eloise turns up her nose at, but I never see them. Quackers the goose is over at the campground near the post office as far as I know. We will go visit one of these days to see if he remembers us. I don't know if I hope he does or not.
