Cleaning up the Woodpile

We have this huge, huge woodpile that my dad built up over many years. It is like a glacier descending down the side of the cliff.

Most of the wood is from off the property, there is a lot of scrap lumber from torn-down farm buildings and cottonwoods cut down on the farm, but Mr. Troutbend has been adding pine trees to it as a result of his tree thinning project.

Lately he has been sorting through what he can easily reach to weed out junkier wood and we've been having a nice fire each night. Tonight he's burning broken up plywood that a previous tenant used for target practice.

I know some of you are having sweltering weather, and here we are with a crackling fire. This is going to end for awhile because warmer weather is coming - we'll get to the mid-70s the rest of this week.

We're headed into a hot spell - 70s. Just watch, in a week I'll be whining about having to water the grass.

Great woodpile. When it gets cold again, that's a real asset. I was thinking of building a fire just to burn the papers that must either be burned or shredded for security, that pile is filling three wastebaskets now.

Over the winter someone brought three trash bags full of document shreds up here thinking it'd make good fuel or fire starter, and it was just a big mess - shreds all over the place, piled onto the fire they smothered it. It was better to burn the papers without shredding them first. I don't even know for sure who brought those bags here, but have a suspicion.

well, cannot add too much to this.I loved the weather we are having now.
Warm in the daytime and the night is cool.Very refreshing.
Look enjoy the weather as others are having a hard time with tornado etc all around there.Be thankful that we do not have any ant this time.
As I said before, will not complain about the weather.
Just do the best that you can.

The plumber and electrician were here Monday to look at what needs to be done for our new standby generator. I'm going to show Mr. Tbend that picture of yours that you posted some time back.

I'll be right over with my pickup for some of that wood. No sense letting it rot. Oh wait--you live a thousand miles away.

You probably have much nicer hardwood over there in Indiana.

Started my walk this morning at 9. The weather report said it was 86.1 and "feels like" 95. They were right. Obviously I have to start out earlier. I came home like a limp rag. Also even though it is the rainy season, we've had no rain at all for several weeks. Real bummer.

Everyone I've talked to lately says it has been such an unusual year weather-wise.

Ah, to be able to have a fire! That sounds nice, although it is pretty hot here... Very pretty!!!

We're heading into a warmer time, so will be opening the windows at night and getting out the fans.

The flowers are special this year.

Average annual rainfall for Seattle: 36 inches.
Average annual rainfall for Port Alberni: 70 inches.
And now you know why we are referred to as the Wet Coast. Living in a rain forest can be depressing.

And yet you all didn't have to invent Starbucks in order to stay sane.

With 94 degrees here I don't think I'll be borrowing any fire wood from you--Oh wait--I don't have a fire place!

Though I don't like snow, winter, etc., I must say you look like you are surrounded by beautiful country--I was in Colorado Springs and Denver many a moon ago--made it up to Pike's Peak--and was, as always, in awe of Mother Nature.

The politics in Colorado Springs are very, very far right. We find out what campaign signs are most prevalent down there and vote the opposite.

I sure could have used a nice toasty fire st Sunday. Next Sunday they are predicting a high of 18C/64F and rain.

We hear a lot about how bleak and rainy it is in Seattle most of the time, is your weather like that, or sunnier?
