The Whole Story

Earlier today I saw in the paper that the body of a woman was recovered from one of the smaller rivers around here. Initially, her 1999 Ford Escort was found, overturned, but nobody in sight, so responders thought it was an abandoned car and left.

But later, her body was discovered downstream from the car, so that filled in some blanks. Apparently, she lost control of the car on that somewhat winding road and wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

And she was from Kansas, so not accustomed to mountain driving.

And she had multiple sclerosis, so maybe her reaction time wasn't very good.

My gosh! It was like pulling teeth to get all of the story.

====

Grossness alert.

At a local festival of some sort, a woman notified police that there seemed to be a man hiding in the bottom of a pit toilet, down in the pit. Apparently he was crouched down there trying to use a tarp as rain gear, and when the police went to check on it, the door was locked from the inside. Eventually the guy came out, not very clean, if you know what I mean, and he was at least 6 foot 4, although I'm not sure what that had to do with it. News headlines called him a peeping Tom. Seems like there must be an easier way.

It was a beautiful day here today and we got some things done. For one, Mr. Troutbend installed a new water-saving toilet in the rental cabin next door. It replaces a blue one that was installed in 1975, if you can imagine. That one worked okay, considering its age, but did clog up on occasion. No doubt it was American made, and a new toilet today probably won't last that long because they don't make things like they used to. The new one is not blue like the bathtub next to it, it's white, but that's okay because it matches the white fake bricks on the walls of that bathroom. I don't recommend fake brick as a wall covering in a bathroom in case you just now perked up and made a mental note for your next redecorating project.

Come to think of it, I don't think I have a picture of that old blue toilet in place. Too late now, I'm not taking pictures of orphaned bathroom fixtures out in the light of day.

Remember those Welsh Corgis who used to come visit me? Their owner testified as an expert witness (the botanist) in the Casey Anthony trial the other day. We have been out of touch for a long time (because she's so busy being a forensic botanist) so it was shocking to see her on CNN, and I don't think she can be proud of how she came off. Bloggers and media analysts are making fun of her testimony. I can't believe she sold out to testify for the defense, she certainly doesn't need the money.

Don't want to dwell on the toilet story. Your testifying friend probably got sucked in by the chance to be on TV. Oh boy, fame.

Knowing her, it was about the money.

Wow! That gives all kinds of new meaning to having one's mind in the gutter. That's just too weird for words.

And it got weirder and weirder after they caught him and talked to him. New charges have been added because he had drilled holes in the mens room walls in a bunch of restaurants in Boulder trying to see into the adjacent ladies restrooms. And according to the quotes, he didn't see anything wrong with all this.

I think you covered all the bases in this post! Fun reading (sort of).

Yes she does, but I don't think she's saying anything about it any more. I don't know what I'm going to say to this expert witness next time I see her. Something like: "Really, Jane? Seriously? You were on the defense side?"
reply by troutbend on June 28, 2011 5:20 PM ()
I'm with Jeri. This guy must have been desperate or sick or both to go to that sort of activity to "peep". As you said, there just has to be a better way.

Just when we think nothing could surprise us.

We have these kind of stories EVERYDAY in South Florida--our canals are filled with dead bodies!

There should be driving lessons for flat landers so they can handle these mountain roads.
