Father's Day Barbecue

Mr. Troutbend's family came up to celebrate Father's Day, and everyone had a great time. They brought everything, right down to the lunchroom style divided plastic plates and took them home dirty. All we provided was the scenery and the charcoal and the wildlife viewing.

The hummingbirds are here in force, so everyone had fun watching them for awhile.

Even with 10 people and a dog milling around the backyard, the fox showed up for a snack. Naturally, everyone was thrilled because they'd saved the ends of hotdog buns for him.

Then, most of them hiked up to the waterfall, which still has water in it.

Coming back down, two big beavers that were up the side stream scouting for fresh trees ran across the path in front of the hikers. The beavers hustled down the stream, over the beaver dams, down the culvert and into the main river. Everyone was thrilled.

We had a few rainstorms, but thanks to our covered patio, this didn't affect the success of the picnic, then the sun came out and they went on the hike, and a thunderstorm moved in as they packed up and left.

It was a great day, and everyone had a wonderful time. I forgot to take a picture of the family.

I love your fox. Makes me wonder what his usual sleeping quarters look like. I always wonder this about the deer in my area too, especially when it's really cold.

Each spring for the last couple of years we have found a large animal excavation into rock/dirt foundations here. We suspect the fox. We filled them in loosely and nobody re-dug them, so maybe it was a temporary thing for whomever. I've read that foxes just sleep outdoors except when they have their young.

How nice the wild beasts cooperated. I do love that fox. It's a pleasure to show off nature to people who rarely get to it. My guests always get excited when they see an egret on the lawn, or a dolphin whooshing up for air. I feel like I'm the proud owner of nature.

It's nice when the dolphins cooperate like that. I was proud of the fox for being so brave.

It was a nice change from our usual quiet times. It helped a lot that they brought all the food.

Jerms is right. It is so hot that the blooms on my little garden just
wither and die...it isn't cool enough at night for fruit to set.

My plum tomato plant has two good-sized fruits, but not a zucchini in sight.

While waiting for your photos to download, I did a couple of chores! It was worth the wait. "Good times had by all".

One of these days you're going to get DSL and you'll be so glad.

What beautiful pictures! And nature seems to have cooperated beautifully. Here, it's been over 100 degrees for two or three days and the wind is relentless. They say it's only beginning. It goes without saying, we're trying to stay indoors.

She's hot all the time now, so yes, we're keeping it much cooler than usual. I'm freezing!

It must be hard on Jen to be pregnant in all the heat and humidity, not a time to economize on the AC bill, is it? Hugs to all of you there.

Your animals know when to put a show on--and I'm not talking about the family!!!

Seeing the bear would have rounded it all off, but they said that was okay.
