Sweat Shop Memories

This is a boutique at the new Cosmopolitan Hotel/Casino in Las Vegas.

The window display is hundreds of sewing machines that must have come from Malaysian sweat shops.

I enjoyed looking at the decorations on them, and thinking of how lovely they must have seemed when they were new. And then I looked at how the coating on the machine pulley wheels is worn off, and thought of all the sweaty hours lowering the needles into the cloth, and nobody cared about the designs any more.

Mrs. Sees so reminds me of Calif.! Nuts and Chews were (are) my favorite. They used to be affordable, but now?? My niece sends my sister some on occasion, and she gives me a couple, just to be nice!

It is an unusual display.

It's very creative. They drilled a hole through each one in order to anchor it to the supports. The weight must be tremendous. Mr. YouKnow counted them, but I forget how many there are.

No doubt those sweat shops (I saw sweet too) have replaced these old machines with new models.

I wonder if the new ones are all white and shiny.

Darn. I thought it said "sweet" shops. No chocolates?

Last year one of the casinos gave us a box of Mrs. Sees Chocolates - Nuts and Chews. Oh my, they were good. There's a sweet shop memory for you.

Someone probably picked them up at an auction, $25 for the lot.
