Foxes and the Elk

A huge bull elk stayed around the yard for about 12 days in late August. He dined on bushes and clover. At first the baby foxes (who now look like adults) were frightened of him, but they became friends.

We're seeing only occasional foxes, including the mother fox whom I think has been here at least two years. Her mate hasn't been around for a couple of months. We so enjoy watching them raise their young, I hope she finds a new mate by next spring.

I've never lived close to anything larger than a deer. They say there are bear around but II haven't seen one. I don't even know if they're bigger than deer.
