Jeri's living room without Jeri.

Our river today. 234 cubic feet per second (cfs).

The baby foxes. Today we saw the father fox (Roy) out in the back yard eating something dead. My husband walked over there, and it was the remains of a baby fox, one leg and the tail. We think the mountain lion got it several weeks ago, and for some reason Roy brought it into the yard, maybe as part of teaching the living babies how to hunt. After chewing on it for a while, he carried the remains off somewhere.

Out of 12 foxes in two litters, we have 3 left - 2 bigger babies, and one of the smaller ones we call Little Whitey because he was so light-colored for the longest time. We still have the father fox, and the mother of the litter of 7, but haven't seen the mother of the litter of 5 for several weeks, so she is probably dead.

Here's a bigger and a smaller baby.

It's really something to see how devoted the fox parents are to their young, especially the father fox. He finds food for them and sees that they are fed before he eats anything. The mother foxes look out for themselves first.

Two ways to look at that last point. If we (and fox) don't look out for ourselves first, we can't look out for anything else.
