The Choices We Make

Friends, neighbors, countrymen lend me your ear...

I am writing to you today from my gorgeous suite high atop the Venetian Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. I have been here since Sunday playing in the Deep Stack Extravaganza IV. I have done okay. I actually won one of the satellite events and monied in one of the others. I held my own in the main event but finished out of the money.

As you all of seen on the news by now the election returns are in and the United States of America has elected it's first black President. Congratulations President-elect Obama on your victory. Both speaches last night, Sen. McCain's concesssion speach and President-elect Obama's were two of the finest I ever heard.

Also this morning, the news is out that Prop 8 in California outlawing gay marriage has passed.

Last week, Peanutsmom and I had a conversation about the election, the candidates and the issues. I told her that I had no "litmus test" and I voted for the man, not party affiliation of any of that non-sense. I mean after-all, both Presidential Candidates oppose gay marriage. While the media blasted Sen. McCain, President-elect Obama was allowed to skirt the issue.

I have decided that from now on, I am going to have a litmus test. Politics is my new mission. I am going to get involved in every political race of any consequence and my only concern is going to be equal rights for ALL Americans, regardless of race, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, height, weight, breast size, dick size or cell phone provider.

I have a friend named Joe Jordan. Joe is a Vietnam era veteran and his mission in life is the MIA cause. He donates to every campaign. He writes letters, faxes and emails to every Senator, Congressman and President about this issue. I am going to be like Joe. I am going to start a new blog that concentrates only on the infringement of rights and what politicians and candidates are doing about these issues.

Last week, I thought that equal rights for gays would occur in my lifetime. Now, I am not so certain it will occur in my daughters. I don't know if you realize how devastating a blow the defeat in California, the land of Nancy Pelosi and coffee enemas, actually was for the advancement of rights for all.

President-elect Obama's victory was started in backyard's across America. The victory for equal rights for all has begun here at MyBloggers. I am not going to settle for just commenting and blogging. I am putting the muscle behind the hustle.

And let's not forget Florida's defeat regarding anti-gay marriage. And too bad not every gay person has the same 'litmus' test.

Chris, that is a wonderful cause to take on. We all need to be more open, accepting, and willing to fight for those not treated with full equality!

The way prop 8 was being contested and campaigned, I suspected it was going to be close, but would not pass. Ugh.

I agree with you Chris. I live in Utah and the sh*it flinging from the non-mormons and mormons over prop 8 has been outrageous. I have never seen or read such hate in my whole life as the comments on the local news website over a story about it. It blows me away that people can allow this to pass it's obviously a discriminatory law.

Awesome, C! :)
While I was so proud last night re: Obama's victory, when I heard about Prop 8 this morning I felt like I had been punched in the gut. I don't get it. I just don't get it.
