Ziggy
We knew when we adopted him that he had immune deficiency but we fell in love with him and took him anyway. He was happy to have a home. Now he has cardiomyopathy. The vet made him comfortable by cleaning out his airways with a nebulizer and hydrating him but said he only had a few days. We brought him home.
Last night he tried to get onto the pool deck, and scraped away at the barrier. It was about 11 p.m., so I had locked it off. I opened the door to make it easy on him and he went out. I couldn’t say no to him. Once there, he just sat staring at the pavers and didn’t move. When I looked again a while later, he was gone. So I checked the closet and there he was, curled up on the blanket the vet had given him.
He is not eating, went to the kitty pan and couldn't go, walks unsteadily and with great effort. I put him on the pool deck in a pet bed. He moved around a bit. Ed and I had to go out. When we got back, I brought him in, supported by the pet bed, and put him in his favorite place, my dressing room closet. I covered him with a soft throw. He lies, eyes fixed, but still breathing. I don't think he will survive the night. I am devastated.
